We were lucky to catch up with DeAndra Jalisa recently and have shared our conversation below.
DeAndra , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is DeAndra Crismon, I’m the founder of Party Shop Avenue. A bespoke balloon design company located in Los Angeles, California. I have been in the event industry for almost 8 years. I started my journey a wedding planner and event designer who wanted to create something unique for the industry.
Which gave birth to Party Shop Avenue in 2017, where I started posting the beautiful creations I created and my designs started to spread the internet like wild fire.
I have been able to work with some notable brands and influencers throughout my career. Clients like, Guess, Boohoo, Fabletics, Netflix, Fashion Nova, Mastros Franchise, Ispy, Colourpop, Sivan Ayla, Jessi Malay, Shayla Mitchell, Draymond Green, and many more. I had one of the biggest jobs of her career back in 2018 when I was flown out to New York to showcase my designs with Ipsy for Ispy Creator Day. Not to mention my designs were feature on Good Morning America the same week.
Now I am still persevering in the industry but is now mentoring aspiring creatives to show them the ropes on how to grow successful creative businesses with my creative membership platform and podcast Creative On The Grind.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
After dedicating nearly a decade to the events industry, I am currently in the process of making a career pivot. It’s time for me to leverage my extensive knowledge and experience to assist others. Working as an event designer has been incredibly physically demanding, and the toll on my body has become evident. Many individuals have reached out, seeking my insights and guidance on various business matters, and I possess a wealth of expertise to offer.
This transition has presented its share of challenges, particularly in the need to balance my creative business pursuits with my educational endeavors. However, I relish the process of learning and growing as I aspire to become the best possible creative business mentor and speaker.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I firmly believe that the most effective way to expand your clientele is through networking. Networking has placed me in the company of extraordinary individuals who have played a pivotal role in growing my business to its current success. I am dedicated to nurturing relationships with everyone I meet, both new acquaintances and existing clients, because your clients can become your most powerful marketing team.
My clients have been a consistent source of referrals, eliminating the need for substantial additional marketing investments. I have found that providing exceptional customer service and crafting a memorable client journey are the cornerstones of retaining clients and encouraging them to return. By delivering a consistent and exceptional experience, you can build client loyalty, and they, in turn, will eagerly refer their friends and family, ensuring a steady stream of business. Trust me, it’s a winning strategy.
