We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dean Mccurry a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dean, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I called my Kids Catholic School Bingo(Mary Immaculate) and after that night, the committee asked me to do their Auction. I increased the School’s goal by 300% and my career was set as I loved raising $$ for charitable organizations. I passed the Texas State Auctioneer Test and received my license. After a year of calling charity auctions, I wanted to offer more than just bid calling. I then proceeded to add: technology-support staff-my own travel dept-raffle ladies-silent-live and raffle items-social media-AV-website and support. This has allowed DM Auction Services to offer full value-add to our non-profit partners increasing revenue for their deserving clients.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have a compassion to help deserving folks: wounded soldiers-kids with medical issues-elderly-abused-diseases that require research-many others. I want to change the world we live in…. one organization at a time……I am a conduit through my auctioneering company to raise needed funds to support these causes.
I create a fun and entertaining auction event while keeping in mind the mission and financial goals of the organization!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
During the Pandemic, organizations could not hold in-person events due to Covid, so DM Auction Services pivoted to offer Virtual Auctions via our technology and Support. We bought cameras ;recording devices; backdrop; bidding technology and other equipment allowing myself and technical support team to conduct virtual events with many organizations that more than ever needed fundraising to keep their doors open and support their clients in need!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
About 2 years ago we partnered with a social media company who we knew. Skeptical at 1st…that has been one of the best decisions I have made for DM Auction Services. Our growth in social media circles(Instagram-Facebook-
