Deaja, appreciate you joining us today. One of our favorite things to brainstorm about with friends who’ve built something entrepreneurial is what they would do differently if they were to start over today. Surely, there are things you’ve learned that would allow you to do it over faster, more efficiently. We’d love to hear how you would go about setting things up if you were starting over today, knowing everything that you already know.
If I was starting over today, knowing everything I know now I would definitely take more time perfecting my craft, and finding my own unique style as a lash artist. After practicing for a few weeks I was excited to start working on live models, and while I eventually got to the point I wanted to be, I know that if I had spent more time focusing on the fundamentals of lashing, I could have gotten there sooner.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hello my name is Deaja T. I am the owner of D. Blinks Lash Lounge & Co. We are a eyelash extension service provider, and lash supplier. We offer a variety of eyelash extension services ranging from classic blinks to mega volume blinks, even custom reusable eyelash extension strips. In addition to services we supply quality lash products such as tweezers, lash trays, and merchandise!
The main things I want my new clients to know about my brand is that we strive to make your interaction with us a relaxing professional experience. We provide exceptional customer service, while enhancing your beauty. I think what sets us apart from others is that we aim to cater to our clients and give them an experience rather than just a service.
I’m most proud of our growth in just two years. I’m excited to see how we will continue to grow!

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Word of mouth has been the most effective strategy for growing my clientele. It starts with providing good customer service, and a relaxing experience for my current clients who then in turn share their experience with their circle or social media. I also always try to network, and leave business cards everywhere I go. Most of my new clients come from customer referrals.
Social media has also helped grow my clientele. It provides a platform that I can gear towards my target audience to advertise my work and products.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I first began my lashing journey I just knew I would be making six figures, working solely for myself within no time. However sometimes it just doesn’t work like that. As a new lash technician I had to balance running, and building up my new business while still showing up to my full time and part time jobs. For my first year in business there were literally no days off. I had only saved up the money to take my lash course so for the first year my job had to assist with funding my business. Once I was able to get to the point where my business was able to fund itself, and become a stream of income I was finally able to let my part time job go. I believe that is just one example that illustrates my resilience during my business journey. Most days I wanted to just quit because I wasn’t where I thought I should have been, but I’m glad I stayed the course to learn the important lessons to continue to grow my business. I do still currently work a full time job, but I definitely have more time to prioritize rest and recovery as I continue to build my business.
