We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful De Loose Cannon. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with De Loose below.
De Loose, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
In 2021 I founded the Hermosa Charity Classic. This is a 3-on-3 basketball tournament in Hermosa Beach. The event was created to raise funds and awareness for local non-profits by bringing people together through our shared love of basketball.
The 2nd Annual Hermosa Charity Classic is set to take place Sunday, November 19th from 10am-2pm.
This event is structured as a single-elimination tournament. The winners will receive a cash prize, and they will also have the honor of selecting the non-profit that will receive the proceeds raise from this event.
I grew up playing basketball at the Hermosa Beach Community Center Gym. I have this dream to create a legacy event in the community that is fun for the participants and likewise generates conversation about volunteering and giving back to the community.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a 28 year old artist from Hermosa Beach, a small beach community just south of LAX and Los Angeles. I am a songwriter, recording artist, performer and humanitarian.
I began recording in late 2020 and have put out new music every year since then. In 2023, I committed to releasing a new song every month. At the end of October, I have released 10 singles into the world.
My name – de Loose Cannon – signifies my desire to be free from the confines of one specific genre. My influences and abilities span from boom bap, lofi, west coast rap, jazz, contemporary hip hop and elements of R&B as well.
My greatest desire in making music is to create something original. Mainstream and independent artists alike are often inspired by others that came before them. There are fewer and fewer individuals telling their own stories in their own words – and I am seeking to change that. I’m less interested in popular and catchy trends – my focus is to be myself because there is no one else like me.
The 2nd Annual Hermosa Charity Classic is an extension of me. The places and things that are important to me – I want to show and share with others in the community. The more that people see me, know me and understand me – the more that they will be able to appreciate who I am and the legacy that I’m creating.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media by networking and building relationships with like-minded creatives. I’ve consistently posted various types of content – including behind the scenes if my recording process, performance footage, upcoming shows, new music and more.
I’ve worked with photographers and videographers to document my journey and growth, and I’ve also collaborated with different producers and artists.
When it comes to social media, its important to determine the niche of
People you are trying to reach. Find 5-10 hashtags for your type of content and for your types of posts to use every time you share something online.
By constantly engaging in these spaces, I’ve built relationships with real people that genuinely care about and support me. I return the same energy and support that they give!
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Making music for a living is my life’s dream. And for many people – this dream never comes to fruition. Many artists and creatives may work for years – even decades – and still don’t achieve what they we’re hoping for.
I have only 3 years of recording and performing music under my belt. And to get to where I’m hoping, it could easily take me another 5-10 years. Having the dedication and the vision to see 10+ years out is essential for longevity in the music industry.
What a listener may not fully understand is the impact that they have when listening to a song, downloading it, or sharing with a friend. I spend days and weeks when it comes to writing, recording, mixing, mastering and planning a content schedule for each release. The fact that someone enjoys my work, and takes the time to appreciate and or share it is literally life-changing. It may seem insignificant – but I pour my entire being into every song that I make. And when someone listens, I fee like I am fulfilling my life’s purpose.
