Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dc Miller. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi DC, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
During the pandemic, mid 2020, I was stuck at home with my only human interaction being with my family and coworkers on a computer screen. I spent a lot of time on social media trying to keep busy and one day came across a video about candle making. A light bulb went off! I bought my first little kit from the local craft store & the rest is history.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m the Owner & Master Chandler of Wick 926. I make all the things lol. We handcraft soy wax candles, wax shots, & incense. As a neurodivergent maker, I feel like I am a pop of color in a world of black & white & I want my brand to reflect that. So all of our branding is simple black & white with the scent in a different vibrant color. We’ve done memorial candles, gag gifts, etc. & we absolutely love creating custom products & watching our customers’ ideas come to life.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
YouTube, YouTube, YouTube lol. I promise whatever I need to learn can be found there. I’m also a part of a candle making community called The Black Candle Maker’s Club (BCMC). I joined as a member in 2020 and became part of the admin/moderator team in 2022 I believe. We now have over 13k members in our Facebook group, have hosted multiple conferences across the country, and our founder started BCMC University. There are multiple classes a month on different aspects of the industry & business and I’ve learned so much about product making, social media management, etc. BCMC is truly invaluable. Shout out to Jewelz of Couture Candlez by Jewelz for being the mastermind behind it all.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth honestly. I would say about 70% of our business comes from people that heard about or saw our products in someone else’s home. Our scent names (Black Girl Magic, Homebody, etc) grab their attention & the scent closes the deal lol.
