Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dazsane Williamson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dazsane , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
During the pandemic and after working in corporate seemed to be even more difficult and nothing was the same. I was feeling frustrated because I still haven’t received a promotion in leadership, even though I felt I was experienced and had earned my bachelor’s degree in healthcare. I was stressed and falling into depression. I was at the verge of quitting my corporate job that I’ve been for 9 nine years. I had to weigh the pros and cons about leaving a job that provided me stable income and starting a business for myself. However makeup has always been a passion of mine, but I’d never pursued because I was a young parent, at the time and thought working full time as a makeup artist wouldn’t help with my daily expenses. Now in my early 30’s I said it was time, So, I decided to take a makeup course at The Makeup Institute to farther my education in the makeup and beauty industry. In addition, I had to make some sacrifices to pay for school out of pocket, but I knew these sacrifices would help me in the long run, I thought about my future and how it would help with networking and getting out of comfort. Also, I didn’t have to deal with the everyday stress of working for corporate.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Dazsane and my makeup business is called Luxxebeat by Simone, I came up with the name Luxxebeat by Simone because I wanted to provide top notch quality services for all ethnicities, and Simone is my middle name. I earned my makeup license in 2022 and opened my suite ready for business in 2023. I use a combination of different makeup products to provide the requested look for my clients. As of now I am only available on the weekends but I am flexible and offer travel for a small fee. In addition, I offer range of other services such as bridal packages and one on one makeup classes.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I have read Establishing a profitable business written by Marshe Watkins, it has gave me better insight on starting my own business.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I have gone a month or two without clients and still had to pay suite rent. Then there were times I have a lot of clients in one month. Since, I do what I love, that doesn’t bother me. I know one day eventually I would be booked and busy every month if I stay consistent.
