We recently connected with Dayon Bryant and have shared our conversation below.
Dayon, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
My biggest risk that I’ve taken . Would really be taking a leave of absence from the my first passion which was Basketball . The blood , sweat ,and tears put into that sport . My injury was probably the worst things that could’ve happened to me . It took away my chances of furthering my career in that sport , and without it I felt lost , and also vulnerable. I did not know what was next in my life for me until one I day I just decided to take a risk instead of getting a regular job I wanted to do music , and from that day until now I have made tremendous progress and became the person I am today . This risk that I took though was not easy I had plenty of times I wanted to quit and give up , but I used all of the tools that I learned from basketball , and applied them into this new formed passion of mine .
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
How I got into the music industry was honestly an blessing in disguise. I was previously playing basketball in college and had a injury that I couldn’t further play on anymore at that level . So me already having the talents in music from playing multiple instruments in the band , and also just being around the buisness of music through my family owning a club in Birmingham, AL . I just decided to jump into the music game at first as a writer , but then realized I had gift of singing . What I believe sets me apart from other is my voice I feel like I have a unique voice . What I’m most proud of is myself honestly. I do feel as if we all know that this music industry isn’t easy and you really have to apply yourself , and instill self confidence in yourself to continue to go hard every single day because you never know what could happen the next day . My brand is myself Dkist . What I want people to know about my brand is that Dkist is not just a singer / artist , but also a brand that promotes to the people that we are one , and that if I can do it ; So can you as well .
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
If I’m being a hundred percent honest till this day I’m still building an audience, because I feel like your audience never stops growing until you stop working . So my advice to the people looking to build their social media presence just keep posting , and don’t focus on many likes and comments your getting because all of that will come eventually you just have to find yourself within your work . Then that is when you’ll see the progress for real .
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
The advice I have on managing a team is make sure the whole team is on the same time you are own at all times . Communication is the biggest thing when having team , don’t just go do something without informing the team of what’s going on . That then builds trust within the team and instead of becoming a team y’all become more of a family .
