We were lucky to catch up with Dayo Ephraim recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dayo , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I grew up in a religious Nigerian household and started singing in church when I was eight. I’ve always loved singing, I can’t remember when I didn’t want to sing. I recall moments when I’d watched Michael Jackson on TV and thought to myself that someday I’d also be singing to large crowds. Fast forward to 2019, after moving to New York, I decided to start singing professionally, and released my first song – Show Me The Way. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My professional musical journey began after I met Eyal Marcovici a music producer at a wedding in the summer of 2018. We talked a lot about music and we agreed that someday we would do a song together. With his very busy schedule, it was hard to meet, but finally, it happened in 2019 and we created a truly beautiful song titled Show Me The Way.
Living in New York has allowed me to meet even more music producers within and outside the US. With an ever-growing music catalog, my music career just keeps on getting better and I’m super grateful to God for the blessings.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist and a creative is the fact that my music impacts people differently. When I hear stories of how they’ve gotten through tough times listening to my song, it truly melts my heart and makes it all worth it.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Being an independent artist comes with challenges. The process of making music is one part, but spreading the music is where the work begins. I always say word of mouth goes a long way. Simply telling your friends, or loved ones about an artist’s music makes a positive impact on their career.
