We recently connected with Dayeon Jang and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dayeon, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
When I was six, I was watching a violinist playing the violin on TV. When I watched him playing, I felt a strong connection with the violin and was entirely mesmerized, wanting to learn how to play and be able to relive the moment that I witnessed as a child. For Christmas, my parents bought me a toy violin, and since then, the idea of being alongside a violin has never changed.
From that point, I attended a violin academy. As I grew up, I channeled my skills as I attended a music-oriented high school, followed by comprehensive violin study in university, majoring in violin and music education, from which I received my bachelor’s degree at Sookmyung Women’s University. To further pursue my musical career, I moved to America to continue my studies and obtained my master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
While I was pursuing my master’s degree in America, I gained professional orchestral experience in the summer of 2024 at a festival called the National Repertory Orchestra. It was an 8-week program in Breckenridge, Colorado, with a full scholarship. Aside from studying in New York City, it was my first time being close to nature, especially the mountains, lakes, wildflowers, and animals. From the festival, I developed my skills in orchestral performance and learned to communicate with the community.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
As a musician, the most rewarding aspect is knowing that music is a universal language that unites people across cultures and continents. It has the power to transcend barriers and bring individuals together through shared experience. Moreover, music has an extraordinary ability to stir the heart and awaken deep emotions. Whether it offers comfort, joy, reflection, or inspiration, music is always there for everyone, no matter what they are feeling.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
In addition to performing, I am deeply committed to teaching and mentoring the next generation of musicians. Helping students discover their own voice on the violin and watching them grow in skill and confidence is incredibly fulfilling to me. My goal is to inspire curiosity, discipline, and a lifelong love of music in my students while continuing to challenge myself as both an artist and an educator.
Ultimately, I see my creative journey as an opportunity to keep learning, to share beauty and meaning with others, and to contribute positively to the communities I am part of.
