Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dayanna Sutton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dayanna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How do you feel about asking friends and family to support your business? What’s appropriate, what’s not? Where do you draw the line?
When it comes to asking family and friends to support me I never have to ask. I’ve been blessed with a strong team of people in my life who believe in me and want to see me win.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
YouTube played a really huge roll in how I first got into the makeup industry . Instead of doing homework when I first got home from school I was on YouTube looking up the most recent makeup trends , how to contour and highlight , what lip colors to use on different skin tones. Eventually I started practicing makeup on myself and would post pictures on Instagram, then my friends and family encouraged me to start doing other’s makeup. One prom season I decided I was going to take a leap of faith and start taking clients , now here I am 6 years later.
The main services I provide is everyday makeup for date night , concerts , birthdays ect. . I also have experience in bridal makeup and creative looks that require a little more artistic skills.
Although I am based in Dallas , tx , I’ve been so blessed to be able to have clients in different cities and states that fly me out for my services. I always try to provide the best experience possible for each person that sits in my chair , and if it wasn’t I always find ways to accommodate them to build that trust and make them feel comfortable enough to want to come back.
The thing that I’m most proud of is my ability to not give up. People underestimate the time , courage , faith, and strength it takes to be an entrepreneur. There have been so many times where I have second guessed myself or wanted to give up , but while this industry can be challenging it’s also very rewarding. I love creating, meeting new people , seeing different parts of the world , experimenting and making woman feel beautiful and empowered.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
My main source of keeping in touch with my clients is through social media , that is how I interact and connect with them. If they are a loyal client sometimes I might text them from time to time and check on them , especially if I know they have experienced a huge change/life changing event in their lives or recently went through some type of tragedy.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Posting on social media and building strong bonds has been my top two most effective ways when it comes to growing my clientele. Making consistent post and putting myself out their is how I first began to reel clients in. Creating a strong bond with my clients has also helped a lot in my career , because if I’m being realistic sometimes social media can be overwhelming and when I go through my phases of being burnt out from posting I have my loyal clients that always return and they trust me enough to suggest my business to others.
