We recently connected with Dayana Esquivel and have shared our conversation below.
Dayana, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My parents brought us over from Cuba in the 90’s so that we could have choices and opportunities. I plan to follow through and take advantage of every opportunity that is presented and work hard to build a business where I can help people and love what I do.
Dayana, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello everyone! My name is Dayana and I’m a licensed esthetician and makeup artist. I actually studied business first at Valencia College and got my AS before really deciding what I wanted to do as a career. Always had a passion for makeup and then when I went to get certified, the school had a dual program for both skin care and makeup. I immediately fell in love with skincare! Learning about our largest organ and how to improve it via different modalities really got me to fall in love with it. I always knew I wanted to be self employed. It didn’t happen right away but I decided to file for my LLC in 2020. Right now my business is mobile. I go to the clients home and set up a temporary spa. I perform custom facials, microdermabrasion, high frequency and also dermaplaning. Makeup services include mostly bridal, glam and runway. In the near future, I’ll be introducing peels and get ready to have a studio where my clients can visit for their treatments.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My parents have been an inspiration to me. They have always taught my sister and I that hard work pays off and to have a good work ethic will get you far in life. My dad is an artist and decided to open his business about 17 years ago. He does oil paintings and murals. He’s extremely talented and I am so proud of him! Having your own business can be stressful but it’s fulfilling at the same time.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I took time off after two years in college because of dance. It was a hobby and it was great, met a lot of my friends who are like family during that time and got to travel but it wasn’t doing much for me except it being fun. I hurt my back during a team practice and that was a wakeup call to go back to school and figure out what I wanted to do. I am so glad I did!
