The first time I knew I wanted to pursue a creative path professionally in fashion was when I moved to Chicago. The city was a melting pot of different styles and cultures, and I was blown away by how fashion could tell so many unique stories. It was in that environment that I realized fashion wasn’t just about clothing—it was a way to express identity, creativity, and culture.

I didn’t design my first piece until many years later, but that experience in Chicago sparked something in me. It inspired me to start thinking about how I could contribute to that creative energy, eventually leading to the launch of Unity Studios. That exposure to different styles and the power of self-expression through fashion stayed with me and shaped everything I created after that.

I’m Day Shaw, the founder of Unity Studios, a fashion brand dedicated to promoting individuality, connection, and self-expression through clothing. My journey into fashion started when I moved to Chicago and was exposed to a vibrant mix of styles and cultures. It was there that I realized fashion was more than just clothes—it was a powerful form of expression, a way for people to tell their stories and connect. This realization sparked my desire to create, but it took years before I designed my first piece: a custom zip-up hoodie that garnered attention and led me to realize I could turn my passion into something bigger.

Unity Studios is all about streetwear that combines bold art, meaningful messages, and high-quality craftsmanship. We create pieces that go beyond fashion—they spark conversations, give confidence, and promote unity. We offer a range of clothing, from hoodies and t-shirts to jackets, all designed with purpose and style. Every piece carries a message that encourages individuality while bringing people together.

What sets Unity Studios apart is our focus on unity and self-expression. We’re not just selling clothes; we’re creating a platform for people to wear their story and feel part of something bigger. Lastly, foster a collaborative environment where artists can share ideas and work together, through events and projects that build a supportive network. These actions will help artists thrive and enrich culture.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is creating something that resonates with others and has a lasting impact. It’s fulfilling to see people connect with my work, whether it’s a piece of clothing or a message it conveys. Knowing that something I created can inspire, empower, or bring people together is what makes the entire journey worthwhile.
