We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dawson Garza a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dawson, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s easy to look at a business or industry as an outsider and assume it’s super profitable – but we’ve seen over and over again in our conversation with folks that most industries have factors that make profitability a challenge. What’s biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
As a self employed photographer it will always be a challenge to remain profitable. I have had to become my own marketer, secretary and customer service. I have to find my own work and work is never guaranteed.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Howdy! I’m an Austin based photographer. I specialize in fine art and cosplay portraits. I love getting to be creative with new clients, wether your brand new to getting your photo taken or you’re an experienced model. I’m always looking for new creative endeavors and wherever my photography takes me.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honestly just networking. I would reach out and connect with people on social media. I’d reply and comment on other creatives work and eventually I would get noticed and conversations would start.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing projects come to fruition after all the planning and work feels so satisfying. Then you just get to sit back and share it with the world and see how they respond to it.
