Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Dawn Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Dawn , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
I wish I had stayed with my creative pursuits from an early age. I remember I entered an art contest when I was in about the third grade with a watercolor painting. I placed 2nd place in the contest. In high school I went on to take manual photography, digital photography, and drawing. In college I took acting courses and interior design classes. All that time I didn’t know that being a creative was my calling! Had I gotten more serious sooner maybe things would be a lot different for me. I don’t live with regrets, but I sure do wonder. I know what is meant for me and my journey will always make it my way. Better late than never!
Dawn , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I pursued acting and modeling for almost five years before I decided to pick up a paint brush or mess with a canvas. I knew deep down that I was a creative of some sort, but had no idea what kind. I decided to start painting during the pandemic actually, so pretty much 2020 was in I felt most at home with this work. I had talked to a channeler who works with a spirit guide from the other side. They asked me,
“Where are your paintings beloved?”
I was stunned by this question and right off the bat I was like? I don’t paint. A few days after my session I went to pick up some paint supplies. It was like a whole bunch of pent of energy came pouring out of me. I painted for days straight. I found myself drawn to working with acrylics on canvas and finding a “flow”. It is what I call drip art, or pour acrylics.
Painting and art really, is a release for me. I somehow feel like I’m saying something more meaningful, something more potent when I pour it on a canvas. It’s weird even talking about this or trying to explain it. I just have to do it. And then you have to see it. It’s a feeling for sure my art is. And my hope is you feel it too. Even just for a moment!
I am most proud of my commitment to this calling. I recently became a mommy, a fiance, AND on top of that am seven months pregnant with a baby boy. I now have this beautiful baby girl that is my life really. She is my everything and its safe to say yeah- being a good mother is the most important role I can play. There’s so much of me though that believes that keeping my art alive, keeping my dream going is so important to being the best mother for her. I want her to know that you can be an amazing mother, provider, lover, AND have a fulfilling career/passion.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn being a pessimist. I had to let go of the idea that the glass is half empty and the cards are stacked against me. I lived so many years feeling like I had to “fight” or “struggle” in order to achieve. I based my success on all the things I could achieve and collect. It’s finally when I started slowing down, letting go, and doing nothing that my psyche and wellness started to thrive. My handle on instagram is @dawnundone for a reason. It’s when I started to undo all that I thought I was and give it to God did I really become who I am destined to be. Believing life is bad until you make it good is just not it. Innately we are all loving, giving, nurturing beings. And life is inherently beautiful. Just let that be. Now my cup overflows.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal with my art is to help someone. My mission is to move my viewers into the light. Whatever that may mean to them. I want my work to reveal the truth, give insight, and to inspire. My paintings are from me for you. For just the viewer in that individual moment- I hope to undo everything that needs to be undone.
