We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Dawn Tarr Scott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Dawn below.
Dawn , appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
From the time I was a child, I knew I wanted to be an artist. From the time I could hold a crayon, I knew. I always thought it was strange when I would have friends come over to play as a kid and none of them wanted to color with me. Van Gogh, and I share the same birthday, which I found out when I was in high school, and adds a special twist to my art journey.

Dawn , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a full-time artist, I paint just about anything you can imagine and more. I’ll work on 20 paintings at the same time normally. Through the years I have supplied artwork for various television shows and famous people. And now while I’m living in Snow Hill Maryland, I offer paint parties and lessons for all ages. I partnered with Shorty Rossi from animal planet’s pit boss for many years and have painted an unimaginable amount of pet portraits.. I traveled around with him for years all over the world, spreading awareness for pitbull’s, and he had my wedding in Mexico, where I had painted all of his walls with Murals of his dogs.
In the last 10 years, I’ve become a Reiki master and now also add Reiki energy to artworks for people that would like the energy to radiate from the artwork in their home for various needs.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I was born in the 70s and lived on a farm in the middle of nowhere. When I created art, my family were the only people that saw it. The Internet came into play, and it changed everything. I could sit in a cornfield in a shed and sell artwork to people in California across the country. I feel the most important thing is if you see art that you like, share it! Artist are always creating and really don’t have the time to advertise. Sharing the art love is what I call it, and I’m always so grateful and thankful for people who like it enough to share it with others. It’s very Much like adopting a pet, finding the perfect home for the artwork can be a challenge. By sharing and being excited about artwork that you see can help an artist connect with interested people that otherwise may have never even seen it.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part for me being an artist has been where it has taken me. As a girl on a farm, it’s amazing that my artwork has carried me to places like Mexico. The people I’ve met, the organizations I’ve been able to help an aid with fundraising. The smiles the art brings to people‘s faces. Having people love it enough to collect. It is a total honor. Being able to immortalize people‘s pets, and learning the back stories. And now with the ability of adding Reiki energy to the paintings it’s another level of assistance for people, places and things.. I feel that my ability was God given, and that I’ve been in service in anyway that has been possible.
