We recently connected with Dawn Rix and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dawn, thanks for joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents made me their priority and loved me and one another unconditionally. They supported me in everything I chose to do whether it was extra curricular activities in school, pageantry, joining the Air Force, opening a salon or pursuing a music career.
My dad was a jack of all trades! He told me that there is nothing I can’t do and I til this day believe him!
He was my 1st sound guy, manager, booking agent, security guard and is currently my biggest fan & HERO!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I have been singing and entertaining my entire life. Country music and gospel is in my blood but I certainly enjoy all genres of music. My goal as a singer songwriter is to be a great storyteller. To deliver a message of love, hope, inspiration, healing, feel good touch through music. It’s definitely the universal language of love. My purpose is to connect with the fans by sharing my story, my passion and my gift. God blessed me with it to deliver a message and to touch the hearts of listeners. I believe even if only one then my mission is accomplished.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Balancing family, business, music and life in general can be a challenge in itself but when you add in being a single parent and a son with special needs even more so. I have a beautiful daughter and 3 grandboys as well. Being one person and doing it all can be exhausting but I have no complaints. It isn’t the cards you have been dealt , it’s how you play the hand! Folding for me is not an option.
Some ask why haven’t I just given up music at my age and some days it feels all odds are against me but one thing this oke gal will never do is throw in the towel.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect for me of being an artist is hearing your song touched someone’s life. We pour our hearts and souls into a craft, an art in hopes to share a message and to make a connection with anyone listening. Being acknowledged for our efforts, hard work, and creativity is wonderful, nominations and awards are great but knowing your song made a difference is EVERYTHING!
