We were lucky to catch up with Dawn Fabritz recently and have shared our conversation below.
Dawn , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
During the pandemic I was laid off from both of the fitness studios I was running. Just like many others, I had NO idea what was next for me in my life. I panicked because all I had at the moment were memories of what life was like when everything was pretty much figured out for me.
One month in to the pandemic and I landed my first client, the one I never knew I was going to have! I didn’t even own a business yet, I was just a former Studio Manager and fitness instructor waiting around for the next move.
Then something happened, I started getting messages from clients from the studios I ran , internet followers, and some friends about needing me to help them become healthier. So naturally I was already prepared, with my former experience running a few different business, having a couple of certifications in nutrition, yoga, and fitness I was able to pull it together in 48 hours and help my first client. We worked together for an entire year.
She came to me right after a car accident and we started with yoga, then she realized she was having a lot of issues with her gut and hit a stall in her fat loss. So I created a program and 365 days later I helped over 30 people regain their health and wellness, and reframe their mind around what it actually meant to be healthy.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Having dealt with my own health issues/concerns and coming from a family full of poor health, I went on my own wellness journey. I tried a lot of great things and a lot of NOT so great things along the way. Once I started to approach my health journey with sustainability in mind, then everything started to change for me. I had success in changing my body composition, healing my gut, and balancing my hormones, WITHOUT dieting. So, when I discovered how much easier creating a healthier lifestyle was , I wanted to help other people that were stuck in unhealthy cycles with their health journey.
I help my clients health guts, lose fat, balance their hormones by teaching them how to create a healthy lifestyle that allows them to still enjoy their lives. No diets, I educate my clients on what is actually needed to satisfy the bodies daily nutrient needs, what kind of exercises are actually going to help them change their body composition , what real food actually is , and how to create a mindset around living a healthy lifestyle rather then constantly going back and forth between diets, obsessive amounts of cardio, and unnecessary supplements.
I am proud of the approach I take when it comes to holistic health, I take an approach that is geared more towards sustainability and simplicity. I don’t tell people how to eat , I teach them how to make informed decisions , I would never come to a client session with a meal plan AND thats how my clients learn how to do this on their own , forever. Most people work with a dietitian and have no idea how to continue going when they’re no longer working with that person any more.
My clients understand that this is a lifestyle change and it takes time, patience, and commitment to themselves.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I started sharing my own fitness journey back in 2016 , I would post before and after pictures, meals I would cook, and check in on social media every time I worked out. I shared EVERYTHING for several years and then when I started my business I kept sharing everything I was doing to help myself and my clients . I kept it real on many occasions, and always show genuinely. I think people see me and find me relatable and that makes them feel like they can achieve whatever it is they want to achieve.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In 2022 I divorced my wife after only a month of being married, I sold the house we bought, moved in to an apartment, and then my dad died. All the while, I was preparing for an international retreat, running a coaching business and trying to ease in to my new life.
I did all of that publicly , and I shared every moment of gratitude, pain, laughter, and complete despair. I shared because I wanted the people watching me to see that even though life throws a lot pain at us, it can also be beautiful. I inspired a lot of people to sign up for therapy, sign up to be one of my clients , and got an abundance of messages that were so heartfelt I knew I did the right thing. I also knew that people need to see more people be vulnerable. Vulnerability is true strength , and that has been the illustration of resilience for me as business owner. My life fell apart but my business kept going and all I had to do was believe this was going to work out regardless. Regardless of any tough moment I was built for it.
