We recently connected with Dawn Del Russo and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Dawn, thanks for joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To be successful takes many things. The number one way I believe we become successful is to have the proper mindset. Keep going no matter what. Sometimes you will have to pivot in business and make changes. Trust the process. Have a supportive team or people around that can keep you on track when you are ready to give up. Find a mentor. A person that has been through it before can catapult your business by skipping some of the pitfalls through their guidance.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
You can tell a lot about a girl by the shoes she wears both literally and figuratively. For the past 15 years, I have been in the world of fashion as an author and on-air TV fashion & beauty expert. I have been seen on TV programs like Access Hollywood Live, Meredith Vieira, Extra TV, E News!, and New York Live. I was a stylist contestant on Glamour Mag Show Dress To Kill and spotted in elite media like Vogue Italia, InStyle, Cosmo, Real Simple, Life & Style, and US Weekly. She was NY’s 95.5 PLJ resident “What to Wear Weather” girl in the mornings.
Prior to TV land, I opened my first brick-and-mortar boutique at 24 years old. I visualized having a girly fashion boutique while attending college and manifested it a few years later.
I am the CEO of 3 brands including her blog LiveTheGlamour.com, fashion boutique turned brand consulting company BellaDawn.com, and recently launched SentialGem.com a fine gemstone line of luxury skincare products. I adore consulting with my clients on building their businesses in beauty, fashion, and accessories. I spend plenty of hours on social media and can be found chatting about fashion, beauty, food, and lifestyle on my Youtube channel, posting fun pictures on Instagram, and creating unique content for TikTok.
I continue to find true passion in worldly travel and attribute my fashion knowledge to Summers in Italy exploring with family. My personal endeavors include becoming a reiki master, and cooking delicious meals (and maybe a cookbook soon).
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
My authenticity and determination are what helped build my reputation. I stayed true to who I was and worked with brands I truly loved. I always was available when I was called upon to do a tv segment and worked to make the producer’s job easier. They can always count on me to be there, and go above and beyond to make a segment a success. I always say to interns and mentors, to work hard, and know more than just the job you do. When you can be of value to someone else you will be remembered and have long-lasting relationships
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I had my brick and mortar boutique for 8 years. It was my dream come true. I was also starting to work with more brands on TV often. I had to make a decision, that was not easy. I knew if I didn’t pivot to the TV full time I may cut off a great opportunity. it was not a simple decision but it was the right one, which I can only see now.
