We were lucky to catch up with Davyhon Canada recently and have shared our conversation below.

Davyhon, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?

In a way I sort of always wanted to pursue music professionally. But the moment I would say my music career started professionally was my first opportunity to travel to Australia to play drums. At that moment I felt like I arrived.

Davyhon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My name is Davyhon Canada. I am a Musician & Producer. As well as the owner of DUNGEONMUSIC. I play drums which is the first musical instrument I fell in love with & a large part of my introduction into music. I play keyboards as well and also produce music. Which is how DUNGEONMUSIC began. DUNGEONMUSIC is a record label & music company. We offer services such as recording, engineering, curating instrumentals for artist, studio space. We can also offer media services everything from photos to videos. The goal is to grow what’s happening now into a powerhouse to be reckoned with & compete with the major labels such as a Def Jam, Interscope or Atlantic Records. I want to be able to provide solutions to artist. I know plenty of artist who are talented but don’t have the resources they need to jumpstart their career. One of my goals is to be in a position where I can see someone who I believe in and help provide the services, knowledge & experience I have to help out & grow that artists dream. The experiences & the knowledge I’ve gained by actually doing and being in the field is a large part of what sets me apart. I know plenty of A&R’s who work for major labels who don’t have near the expertise or experience that I have in music. So I want to take the value I have and bet on myself & my company DUNGEONMUSIC.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

I believe thinking things out & planning is very important. BUT, I also believe sometimes you have to just do! Just Act! And figure things out along the way. You don’t have to know every step. Just doing and learning along the way is sometimes the best way to learn.

As a kid learning to play instruments I never knew how to read music, or knew everything about music but I just jumped in the fire and started. Same with starting a business. There was a lot of learning on the job but it makes you stronger & it teaches you how to adapt. Which I believe are great qualities to have.

Have you ever had to pivot?

I have to pivot in life everyday. I believe we all do and especially entrepreneurs. The biggest business we have to manage is our life. Which is always a forever up & down thing. You throw in whatever your business is on top of family, friends, etc. that’s quite a bit to juggle. I personally believe that balance is a life long act but the better we can balance how much time we give to all these different moving parts of our life the better we can maneuver through life. Working hard too much can take away time from family & being with the family too much can take away from the time you need to put into the work. So finding balance in life, family & work is extremely important & a forever pivotal act.
