We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Davonte Walls. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Davonte below.
Davonte , appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
At first I was very hesitant about asking for help from family & friends but then I come to realize to build an empire you have to have a team behind you. I started asking friends who did videography, photography, and creative directing to help my vision come to life. After that our creative minds came together and my promotion & marketing have been through the roof. With the help of them I got better suppliers, more customers, and got connected with a lot more ppl.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Davonte’ Walls. I am the owner of privilege closet LLC. This is my second yr in my business officially. I’m an upcoming street wear brand which first started at lingerie but eventually I venture off into streetwear apparel. My brand is for everyone and is inclusive to all shapes, sizes, and genders. I want to highlight that it took me quite sometime to get where I’m at now with my business alot of doubt and uncertainty but I kept pushing and from a local perspective my business thrives but as time continues I plan on having my business flourishing with a mainstream audience.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I think my resilience came in when all my shipment was late for my second drop and I couldn’t promote. So instead of calling it quits I thought of new and different ways to get the ppls attention. I was making reels, videos, and I even letting the ppl follow my journey as i was rebranding. I was documenting and showing the ppl what they had to look forward too. By doing that it really instill in me that no matter the obstacle you can overcome it.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to learn to be patient and discipline I think those are the two very most difficult things for me. Why ? Because as a entrepreneur you normally want the immediate reaction from whatever your selling and wanting to know how the audience feels. However over time I learned that patience is key and if you rush it that’s when it all can fall apart. In my experience slow motion is still motion and tiny steps are better than taking leaps of faith your not even ready for: As for discipline I feel I had to really stay focus on what my goal was For my business and how would I like to be looked at as a business owner. I had to change the way I went about managing my days and how I carry myself..
