Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Davonté Burse. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Davonté, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I am happy as an artist. As an artist your art and everything that you do creatively is an extension of you. It also feels like having a superpower in a way, if that makes any sense. I’m specifically an actor and I love what I do. I don’t necessarily think about what it would be like to work a regular job because I’ve worked plenty of “regular jobs”. In addition, I currently work at a job that would be considered regular. I don’t think most people realize that your average actor is an everyday working class individual. We work to fund our lives, to fund our art and dreams.

Davonté, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m from New Orleans, La born & raised. I started acting around 2019 on stage in local musical theatre productions. Once I realized acting was something I wanted to do professionally, I shifted my focus to beginning a career in Film & TV by 2021. What that looked like was lots of networking, acting workshops, classes and auditioning. Im most proud of my journey thus far and every project and story I’ve had the pleasure of being apart of.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think non-creatives struggle to understand how difficult it is to be a creative. It’s not for the weak. What we do comes from our hearts and there’s a spiritual aspect to it. With acting specifically, it’s about telling stories, telling them truthfully and portraying real life. It’s a lot of rejection and auditioning for roles that you usually won’t get but that’s apart of the job. You have to love this.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
What’s driving my goal and mission in my creative journey right now is the need to keep myself grounded and continuing to know who I am in the chapter that i’m in. There’s things that I want to accomplish and see come in fruition, especially this year. This is my art, my escape, my joy.
