We were lucky to catch up with Davon & Tavon Woods recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Davon & Tavon , thanks for joining us today. Everyone has crazy stuff happen to them, but often small business owners and creatives, artists and others who are doing something off the beaten path are often hit with things (positive or negative) that are so out there, so unpredictable and unexpected. Can you share a crazy story from your journey?
We are working around the country for kids in the foster care system.
Davon & Tavon , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Daquane Shamar Jacobs and Tavon Lamar Jacobs were born to Patricia, who was addicted to drugs during her pregnancy. Because she took illicit drugs, her twins tested positive for having drugs in their systems. Thereafter, they were called “crack babies.” At birth, the twins weighed only two pounds. Soon afterward, the twin brothers were taken out of the hospital and placed into foster care. Their other family members fought to get them back but were unsuccessful. When they turned two, they were adopted by the Woods family. Their adoptive parents changed their names to Daquane Sammie Woods and Tavon Sammie Woods. Daquane and Tavon grew up with several unanswered questions about their origins. Life was hard because the boys never received the love, care, and affection they deserved. They didn’t know anything about their adoptive or birth family.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
We want to make sure kids all around the world are heard.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We just started telling our story and our pain about growing up in the system.
