Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Davo Sounds. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Davo, appreciate you joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
When it comes to music entertainment every day is a gamble. I’ve been around the block a bit so I know cover songs are a great intro into an artists individual style. Just think of Cledance Clearwater Revival. They wrote and performed a good chunk of your favorite soul songs. “Proud Mary” and “Heard it Through the Grapevine” which we now know as soulful masterpieces. I tried to recreate that same feeling with “Eye of the Tiger” my version is funkie for sure and at first I was concerned it wouldn’t be taken well. There started to be a very good response on Facebook and even others would mention it in person.

Davo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Attack the Sound (ATS) – an Alt-Pop/ Rnb-Soul band, led by army vet, fire fighter and singer/songwriter Davo Sounds (David Woulard) – has eventuated in the Chicago music and poetry scene. Notable credits include collaborating with artists such as Isaiah Sharkey, Bianca Shaw, Taylor Bennett and JC Brooks. In 2019, ATS was featured on ABC’s popular show, Windy City Live and in 2020, inked their first sync deal with Winding Way Records for their single, Love is War. The subsequent video for Love is War/Love:War was awarded Judge’s Choice at the Midwest Film Festival, further cementing ATS’s standing as one of the best new upcoming artist in the industry.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Covid was the great equalizer in many ways. I found that to keep up we had to shed our fear of failure and move with the instability. We decided to use that time to record 3 proper music video, 12 studio singles, 6 videos for TV/Streaming and build a full content creation team. It really change the game for us at the time because we always had something going on when it seemed like no one was working. So Far Sounds YouTube channel, Punk Black, Midwest Film Fest, Chicago Bulls, ABC and WGN all used our music from 2020-2022. The pivot we took came in handing when the industry was in need for talent and all the high profile or nationally touring bands couldn’t afford to take these types of opportunities.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think our flexibility and versatility helped us build and maintain our reputation in the market. Being able to express ourselves while still finding familiar notes to relate to a wide demographic. You get old school Rnb and Soul with new school Pop and Alternative. It’s Temptations and Weekend and Jimi and Bruno and Kings of Leon and Heat Wave.
