We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Davion Rodgers a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Davion , appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I think the first time I realized I should pursue being a full-time artist/creative came in a series of events. Ultimately creating a stream of affirming experiences that lead me to believe I was fulfilling my God given purpose.
Davion , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Davion Wesly Rodgers, also known as “Davy Jonesz”. I originally started my journey in the arts learning viola as a child. Learning classical music laid the foundation for me to transition into writing, producing, and engineering my own music. Going to college exposed me to the arts on a larger scale which paved a way for me to start curating exhibitions. Ultimately, creating events, producing for local talents, and giving people a high energy art experience. I want people to know that I am a visionary who is passionate and intentional. Diligently pushing to create my place in the world of art globally.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I never wanted to settle. I worked factories, corporate, retail, and even the railroad!!! I needed those experiences to fortify my work ethic and ambitions. The goal was to always pursue a life that was true to me.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think my sophomore year of college is when I had to make adjustments, truthfully. I felt like I was starting to “following the herd” after a while. I had always felt like I needed to close the gap between where I was and where I wanted to be. Sometimes the pivot in one’s life comes from knowing the worth of your own example to others and yourself.
