We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Davinceó a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Davinceó thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
I’ve always felt misunderstood or mischaracterized. I think it comes with the territory though. My music is more of a fuse of R&B with trap influence, but my lyrics come from a conscious state of mind to warn those after me. My subjects could range from love, hard times, good times, and vibe filled nights. I’ve been approached by certain situations, but I didn’t necessarily think it fit me as an artist. Though I try to stay open minded to every situation, my spirit has to align with the opportunity. I’m still finding my footing. I remember when I dropped an R&B inspired song, a manager I know in the industry basically told me that “I’m looking for the next “Drake”, but that’s not really my aim as an artist. I don’t think anybody could be him. I’m the first “Davinceó”…. I felt that situation felt a bit personal because we were growing our working relationship, but it really didn’t work out.
After the smoke cleared. I learned to not take it personal because they are only speaking from their own perception. Which is fine with me going forward.

Davinceó, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who may not have read about me before, my name is Davinceó I’m a singer, songwriter, music producer, and business owner from Detroit, Michigan. I entered my way into the music industry by creating my space of music and putting various songs on different streaming platforms and using social media platforms for advertisement. When I started taking music seriously, I always had many ideas running across my brain of starting my own business in music entertainment. Knowing from some music business owners that I’ve known to be successful; put an extra push on my mind and soul to pursue being a music business owner to be able to have my very own record label and management company. What sets me apart from others I believe would be my unique sound of music and my mindset about how things can be pursued. One of my mottos is “Don’t Work Hard, Work Smart.” Not truly meaning don’t work hard for what you want in life but go about it smartly, don’t overwork yourself to the point that you can’t eat, think, and sleep. Your brain and body are top priority and that’s what will keep you moving to be able to come up with various ideas or function to become successful.
I am most proud of …
Mainly I want potential clients and fans to know that…

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yes… life, purpose, and love. I feel like life is a continuous journey that gives you a chance to evolve and experience through my art. Just think about it, we are given a chance to inspire someone that’s on a similar trajectory. The purpose gives me a chance to open someone else’s imagination about my story. The love for it provides me the passion to create a universal connection.
I’ll explain…
when I create music, I like to create a vivid picture. I try to give you step by step, play by play on how it was to grow up as a kid from Detroit that faced various odds. I faced a few pitfalls in my life and luckily, I was smart enough to pivot from those same pitfalls that my peers succumbed to. My cousin right now, is facing a serious situation that could affect his life. I always kept that in mind that that could have been me if I made the wrong turn during those times, I felt lost. Overall, I feel a sense of gratitude. It may seem cliche, but my main goal is to deliver a message, but the accolades and the rewards will be a plus.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Yes, I’m a bit of a hermit on social media but in my real life I’m more so of an outgoing personal type of being. I build my social media presence off freestyling over various beats or songs that I loved, made by other artists or so just releasing my own music. I try to display personality in between those posts but my overall goal is to always be myself. I don’t think social media gives you the chance to be yourself completely. It’s more so of a tailored version. Though I try to stay authentic as possible. My advice to any aspiring business owner, artist, creative in any aspect is to find what truly works for you and try to build off of that while implementing new strategies. I don’t try to be mysterious, I’m just more of an observant person than anything and when I speak it’s a need to really say something. But going forward, I think I will keep some of my thoughts to myself because everyone seems to be on edge or certain perspectives can be kind of controversial depending on who’s checking in.
