Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Davina Dréma . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Davina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I would like to think it’s nothing too far from reach, but my hopes are that the legacy I leave for my loved ones, and for my child, especially would be a plethora of wisdom and inspiration. May my actions and character be enough to demonstrate the beauty of living life well and to its full capacity.
I’m not too concerned about what people might say about me when I’m gone. I only hope that my son will know that I did my best and that I loved fully so that he may try to do the same.
Davina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m very much in the beginning stages of what I’m trying to accomplish. I’ve had people describe me as a renaissance woman, jack of all trades or someone who is involved in way too many things.
In simple terms, I would call myself a freelancer. Over a few years, I’ve accumulated quite a few skills that have helped me out in different areas of work, but it was just a year ago that I decided, I would no longer work for anyone if I wasn’t the one making the rules.
I took a risk and left my sales position to work from home and acquire new skills and perfect old ones specifically in writing, languages and education. Over the year I have self published, became a certified notary public, taken on work as a freelance writer, caretaker, tutor, and started homeschooling my son full-time.
I want to be the woman that anyone can come to when they have no idea where to go, when they need help, or even just an answer to a simple question. I’ve taken over 20 courses on different areas of study and I’m currently enrolled in courses for languages Spanish, asl, French, and Arabic.
What may separate me from other people is my persistence and my excitement. I love how full life can be if you really give it a chance and the amount of opportunities that are just waiting to be explored. Everyone needs help with something- you just have to be ready to help when the time comes. Some people may see that as a burden I see it as an opportunity and a new connection.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
So the first two months into my journey, it was very quiet. You could hear crickets during the day. I was not sure if people really understood what I was doing and I wasn’t sure if my writing work or status as a notary public would be good enough to motivate others to spread the news by word of mouth.
I’ve never really been too big on social media because it seems chaotic to keep up with. So I would post here and there talk to family, friends, coworkers, occasional strangers.
Truthfully it was faith and possibly a delusional amount of confidence that got me through those two months, because obviously money does not fall off of trees. Money was a concern for me.
By the third month, life started moving for me. Like I said everyone needs help with some thing-you just have to be ready when the time comes. Anytime someone needed assistance with a résumé, content, notarization, etc. I’d make sure that I was on time, that I communicated well, that they knew where to find me, how to find me and to spread the word for anyone else who might need assistance.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes, I don’t want to be the pawn on somebody else’s chessboard. I intend on living life to the fullest and exploring every opportunity I have. I want to live life by my rules, and hopefully through observation, my son will know and be able to do the same.
