We were lucky to catch up with Davielle Jackson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Davielle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
My parents lead with love. It is something that I practice with my kid daily. Leading with love meaning, quality time. Our parents spent quality time with us, vacations every summer etc. My mother learned from the mistakes her mother made and made sure to not repeat them. She woke us up singing (good morning beautiful). I remember going to school everyday and having to wipe off her lipstick prints on my face from kissing me. My mother also discussed real life issues with us daily. Communication, things that she was struggling with as an adult. She would talk to us about it. It made us confident and self motivating. My parents never came to us and said “be the best” or “get straight A’s” it was just something me and my sister understood already. And I credit that to my parents leading with love.
I now understand how impactful that was on my life. I Never went into the world looking for love. I had so much that I didn’t need it. I also knew what real love felt like. So anytime I ran into something that was not it.. it was a red flag. My parents invested into our education very young, making sure we had the best. These, I think are are pivotal in who I became to day. Thanks mom and dad!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My passion to help others was cultivated in her youth. I grew up in Catholic schools in Marksville, LA. One of three girls growing up with two entrepreneurial parents who instilled in them love, teamwork, and greatness are the core foundations of life. I have always been willing to lend a helping hand at home and at school. As years progressed, I picked up playing basketball and love it. It really showed me what can be accomplished when working on a team.
After I received her bachelor’s degree in biology the plan was to continue forward into medical school. Innovating the feminine hygiene care market had never crossed her mind.
Then a longtime friend came to her with a problem. She said, ” I really need your help.” She expressed that she has extreme flow during her period caused by PCOS that was debilitating her life. She was at the point of sleeping on multiple towels, while using two to three tampons at night and missing class and work.
I moved by her vivid candor, felt that there must be a way that she could live life. This was a challenge, but I was going to charge forward. I finally came up with a solution that allowed my friend to sleep tight and also go out without the worry of a leak. This disposable panty became known as Pretty Panty because of the animal print and they were so cute.
I then decided to give women a better choice offering full coverage, all natural, and chemical free feminine hygiene care products.
I broke records by entering into Wal-Mart at a record time frame of 6 months, something a Wal-Mart executive and representatives have deemed “impossible.” I am a dedicated and hardworking; mini mogul.
I have gone on several business ventures and acquisitions listed under her long list of achievements. She is forward thinker and has major plans for the future.
I am also an Author! Due to so many request and people wondering how I excelled so quickly in business, I wrote the book, Ready, Set, Go! Which is the “green print” on turning their passions into millions! The itch to give back persisted which lead to the developing of my non-profit organization, I am #1, that is dedicated to the success of young women.
I am now known as the “Vagina Saver” as women using my products have lighter periods and less cramps. Providing the healthiest period and feminine care products to women monthly. The “Amazon” for women with periods is what a recent article describe me as.
I also dedicated my life to helping women even before my brand. Now I can help billions of women, globally with an issues that has yet to be resolved.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Resilience is the key to any successful business. Being a founder, creator or business owner is extremely hard. Imagine being a young, little black girl, who would be the first in her family to subscribe to reaching billions of people with a global product that will help and touch every woman on the planet!
My first form of resilience was when I first launched my product and company. I invented the product, 6 months later I was partnered with Walmart — 6 months after that Target.
Everything happen so quickly that I was not able to gain investors of capital from banks. I was cash flowing the company myself with the help of family.
Then it all crashed, supply and demand I could not meet. I remember, I was not leaving my house for months only working and strategizing. Then one of my mentors said “you’re depressed” he told me to read my own book to get back on track.
I knew what I had to do, I took a break.. went home to my family and said ‘God if you want me to keep doing this show me” and he did. Within that same year, I was able to raise fund for the company and pivot from retail to DTC.
Now we have over 20,000 subscribers and growing and we are back in retail. Keep going! Don’t be afraid to take a break, ask for help and persist!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Our product and its results.
Although, I have selected a business that is a taboo topic, people don’t like to talk about it. Periods and feminine hygiene. Periods are such a dark time for women but my goal for opening my company was giving women a voice. Im now “the “Vagina saver”.
Women love our product because they actually work. The believe in me because I too suffered in silence just like them.
I suffered from fibroids and had no clue where they came from. After years of only using my own products, I was able to conceive and fibroids shrunk.
Educating our customers on what is needed to have a healthy feminine eco-system is our main priority. “We protect women” and “sexy starts from the inside” is some of our slogans. Women trust us, and my job is to maintain that trust with every woman we service.
