Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to David Walker . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi David , thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
My legacy as a DJ will be one of the best to ever do it. Yes, I know it’s cliche but let me explain. I want my sound to cross generations. The way I DJ, read & react to the crowd is something unique. As DJ’s we are entertainers, I want to entertain beyond the booth. Being known for Djing, interviews, music production, fashion, etc. I want to build a community as a DJ. Right now there is a disconnect between bottle service vs non bottle service places. I want to combine both worlds and we have fun with it. I also would like to show and teach the next generation about all aspects of DJing. A lot of DJs say they can do it all but when it comes down to it, they do struggle in certain aspects.

David , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Peace Everyone,
I’m DJ Banksyy from the Bronx, NY. I got into DJing when I was in college but I didn’t fully grasp the concept. It was just something my friends on campus did while I stood in the background helping them. My friend KaJuan had a gig on campus for the students and I would help him set up and breakdown. At this one event we set up the DJ equipment and KaJuan asked me to watch the controller while he used the bathroom, I always say that was my first opening set ever. He showed me the basics of how to DJ. I’m proud of the fact that I took that knowledge and years later I’m still here DJing all over NYC. What sets me apart from others is my music knowledge and selection, I’ll always play something you forgot about or something you didn’t know you wanted to hear. When the time calls for it & I’m MCing while DJing, I’ll have the even on 10 while having your crowd laugh & smile. The thing about DJ Banksyy the brand is I’m the full package and along a very humble and kind person.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The resources I wish I knew about on my journey was certain OGs in the DJ community. I’ve learned from them up close & from a far about how to move as a DJ. What to do business wise, booking wise, mixing wise, crowd reading wise. I would say I’m a visual learner, so I would often what how the OG’s operate in the booth & interact with the crowd.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was about versatility as a DJ. When I first started I use to say I’m not going to play Latin music, I’m don’t speak it, I’m not playing Top 40 music, I’m only playing Hip-Hop & Dancehall. My mindset changed when I was booked for a birthday party & the family wanted me to included Latin music in my set. I had to learn because the pay was good & I didn’t want to miss out. There as also a time after I did the party, I heard DJ another spinning at a party I had went to and he went through genres like it was nothing. That was confirmation that I need to do some research in these genres.
