We recently connected with David Tribble and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, David thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I hesitate to say “I took a risk”. and here’s why. Yes I am a dreamer so that puts me in a category of someone who doesn’t require security in a sense of a steady job w/ steady income w/ benefits. I haven’t seen benefits since I was a school teacher. Which, if I may, they deserve all the benefits and a raise for being in the trenches with the kids of today.
But back to the risk taking, I knew early on that music was something that I connected with, which made everything else make that much more sense, therefore making all things better.
Having a family, my wife and our two girls, shifts my gears when it comes to security, but not the kind that the word is trying to sell us, but the kind that you can’t see. Faith in knowing and the drive to follow through as I trust the plan that I believe God has put before me. I’m by no means gonna get it right everyday, lets get that clear, but HIs grace does. As I’ve gotten older, I mean more experienced, I’ve been able to share advice with some aspiring artists and I tell them, don’t be afraid to make mistakes. Advice I’ve had shared with me but I would also add, know who you are, get good at it, and shine your light. Don’t get caught in the current of society, social media and opinions because we are all taking different routes to get where we are going.
So last year, 2021 was a life changing year for me and my family. We decided that I’m not going back to teach school. I’m gonna release and album and grind away, booking up my weekends with the help of a team of people who i work with who help me get in those doors. Making the weekends my office now, and I even hold down a part time job at White Stone Golf Club jus outside of Fort Worth. Since you can’t play golf in the evenings it works out great!
All this in a city where this kind of “risk” becomes a reality. Fort Worth was designated the first “Music Friendly City” by the Texas Music Office in 2017. With organizations like Hear Fort Worth & Amplify 817 having my back, it adds a lot of confidence. Music is a big part of the culture here with a great supporting cast of Dallas and the nearby metroplex seeking out music and providing places to play as well . This all weighs into the opportunity I now have to dig my heels in, with the full support of my wife and our family to go after it and I know I am very blessed to be doing what I love. I don’t want to take that for granted.
I’m very grateful for. the connections I’ve made and the opportunities I now have after always pursuing music, writing songs, playing shows, finding ways to do what I love. Getting to know the people who want to listen and then nurturing that relationship with quality music and videos to go along with a memorable live performance, solo or with a great band who I’ve been playing more shows with lately. I do always have to remember to take a step back, and as my friend and fellow singer songwriter Pat Byrne says “I’m only a man”.. So more than ever I pray for humbleness and guidance along this journey.
I also just found out we will be playing at Deep Ellum Arts Fest this year. so were really looking forward to that! Hope to see you there!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Based out of Fort Worth Tx, born in Texarkana. A former Middle School Science Teacher and Coach, but always pursing music and honing his craft and first love, songwriting and playing music. Now married to his wife Erin and their two girls Harper, 9, and Emberly, 3.. David brings his soulful sound as singer/songwriter, writing and singing with compassion and conviction connecting with audiences on and off stage, solo or with his band, spanning the Folk, Indie and Americana genres with soul-filled melodies and bars of truth. Being raised up in church as a kid has built the foundation for who he is today. Now balancing family and a music career., he continues marching down that path, with original and authentic songs that lend a hand in telling about life in all its splendor and disarray, delivered in a way that is eager to be heard.
After a short journey with the TV show “The Voice”, in 2014, David chose to continue doing what he loved to do, write and perform his own music, now more determined and motivated than ever. He just released his 3rd album, “Golden Junk”, in 2021. Available on all music platforms. A collection of personal songs, new and old, and his most vulnerable album yet.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
People who want to support artists can do a lot. Heres what I would say to someone if they asked me how they can show support. In no particular order.
-Go follow them on your music platform of choice.
-Pre-save all the music before they release it
-Save a few songs you like
-Add them to a playlist of yours, or make one if you haven’t, and then add them
-Subscribe to their YouTube channel. b
-Become a member of their Patreon page for a few bucks a month.
-If you are on social media go follow/like their page. Share thoughts about their posts. Most of us will respond.
-Share and like important post about new music or videos on your feed.
-Go see them play live when they are near you. Attend a show and buy a ticket.
-Buy merch at a show and meet the artist. Most of us are around after a show.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me this is about the opportunity. The grand scale of it, with access to people across the globe. That means to me that what I do is serious, because everyone listens to music, everyone! I want to use my platform well and make it count when those people stumble upon my music or come out to a show.. Meeting them there wherever they might be in their walk of life. Music is a most amazing gift and I’m so blessed to be able to give it back everyday.
