We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful David Rosen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with David below.
David, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Being successful is very personal and a mindset. Success is different for everyone and how each of us defines success. For me being successful is a balance of both personal and career. Most people feel being successful is all about the income you make. Success plain and simple is about balance. For me family is the most important aspect of my life. My wife and son are who I do everything for. Professionally as a portrait artist the biggest factor I feel for my success is listening attentive to my clients wants and needs. Each client has a story. When you are able to build trust, then everything else happens naturally.
Here is a recent example of how listening created a lifelong client. Running my business in Florida and also having clients in North Carolina being flexible is key. Back in May 2023 I had someone who reached out to me about having family portraits created. After listening to my client and asking certain questions, we both found out how much we had in common. Fast forward to meeting in person in Greensboro NC. When we met for the session (which was the first time meeting my client) I was greeted with a hug. From then on I knew I had developed trust and started to build a relationship. making a long story very short, the session went off incredible. All of the family members had so much fun during the session. The portraits turned out amazing. The client invested a significant amount of money on the finished art I created. There was never any push to sell the portraits. As a huge learning point from this client, if you lead from your heart, and are truly passionate of what you do, success will follow.
David, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Who is David Rosen the owner of Photo Innovations I, Inc? I am an artist who is passionate about creating both branding portraits and family portrait art, that is unique and out of the box. My goal is for my portraits to be ‘ REAL” As a portrait artist specializing in family portraits, what I create is a legacy. I realize that we live in a digital age and everyone wants their images on their phones. Imagine when you come home from work and you walk into your home seeing beautiful portraits of the people that mean the world to you proudly hung on the walls inside your home. Everyday is a gift. Personally my son is off at college . My wife and I miss him. We have peace knowing that we are able to see various portraits of him that I have created over the years.
Many of our clients ask what is unique with what we produce. From our beautiful hand crafted image boxes made in Ireland, to our state of the art canvases and aluminum portraits, the sky is the limit on what we produce. The most important aspect of our business is that quality and customer service are both equal. Living in an area where customer service is greatly lacking, its humbling that our clients are blown away with all points of their journey. I am going to share a recent quote from one of my clients. I feel this says so much about the integrity of what we do at Photo Innovations. “There are some relationships in life that are simply meant to be! On a balmy spring evening we gathered with David for a wonderful experience, and beautiful memories. David’s artistry captured precious moments and loving family interactions to be shared and cherished for generations. For that, we are so very great full!!”
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Two years ago I relocated my business of 32 years from small city in NC to a large city in South Florida. My initial thought was this would be an easy transition. Let’s face it, I had thriving business and new how to market my business. BAM!!!! I was so wrong. Moving to not only a larger city but more importantly to a culture that is very diverse with people from all over South America and the world. Learning about customs and what people value was and still is totally different than families in NC. I am a sponge. Everyday I am learning something new. I have to be open for change whether I like it or not. Being able to adapt and learn is vital for the success for my company in South Florida.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
Sales!!! At the end of the day no matter what each of us does, we are all selling either ourselves and or products all the time. The moment that you pause and listen is the pivotal point that you grow. Yes.. I make my living as a creative soul producing portraits for both personal and business use. I feel many people in the business sector feel that they have to always be pushing their products or service. For me letting people understand what my purpose and ” WHY” is has helped me grow professionally. Love what you do and you will never work another day in your life. That saying is my mantra.
