We caught up with the brilliant and insightful David Rosen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
David, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I’ve always been a big proponent of learning by doing. Music and podcasting are both things I learned by just doing a lot of them.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’ve spent the last 20 years composing and producing music for films, commercials and other kinds of media. Along with my custom music I make for these kinds of projects I also release albums of instrumental music that is inspired by my work in film as well as my favorite kinds of artists that I have listened to my whole life.
In the last 5 years I’ve also gotten into podcasting. I host my own movie podcast, Piecing It Together, about films and the films that inspire them, and I produce Awesome Movie Year, another kind of movie podcast. I’ve also produced and edited other podcasts and bringing it back to music, have been hired to make music for many different podcasts.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Share, share, share. It costs nothing. And in today’s world of algorithms its the only way for us to get seen and heard.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Not everyone is like me in this regard but I genuinely love the stuff I put out into the world. I’m like my biggest fan as far as my music is concerned and I really enjoy the podcasts I make.
