We recently connected with David Robinson and have shared our conversation below.

David, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

Athletics has always been my passion, and when I went through my sports recruiting process, I reached out to over 70 schools to get just a handful to show any significant interest in recruiting me. I had to endure a lot of rejection in order to find the right school. And later as a college head coach I found that my success in recruiting came from my ability to identify the under-recruited athletes. I enjoyed recruiting and coaching, but I also realized that I could see all of the options available to my recruits, even when they could not. So when I chose to leave college coaching, I wanted to dedicate myself to making sure that no athlete has to go through the amount of rejection I did. And make them aware of every option available to them, for them to truly choose a program that really is the best fit school for them.

David, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I spent nearly a decade, coaching, recruiting, and advising student-athletes for college. And in that time I learned what works and what doesn’t when it comes to finding the right college sports offers. Scholar Champion Athlete (SCA) Recruiting was created to ensure that no recruit ever has to go under-recruited. I offer an online system that is always ready when you are, putting the power where it belongs in the hands of recruits and their families. And with it they can know who wants to recruit them, how to become their own agent, and have access to my expert coaching on demand.

We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.

I began my service as a 1 on 1 recruitment coach. I realized quickly that it would be challenging to scale because people would have to pay for my time and pay for me not to work with someone else at that same moment. I also took a look at my analytics to see what was working, and I realized that video content where I was on camera was effective at engaging people. In time I was able to combine both of those elements into the online product that I now offer. One where I provide a click on demand system to coach people towards success, that gives the experience of meeting with me, without them having to pay the up-sale of buying my time. It was incredibly challenging because walking that journey meant I had to learn how to develop such an online platform which pushed me into the web design space for months as I solved that problem. It all taught me that when motivated, we can learn just about any skill. It is important to assume a solution to my problems exist even if I do not know it yet and stay calm as I search for it.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

The biggest lesson that I had to unlearn is that things are not happening to me in my business journey. My decisions instead, always lead to an outcome. It doesn’t matter how much value I can provide if I am unable to articulate it in a way that the customer can receive. I began my service struggling to gain traction because I had not made it easy enough for people to know, like, and trust me. I attempted at first to build a brand around a logo, rather than a brand or name around myself. People responded to me on camera speaking to them, much more than an impersonal logo. It was a trusted advisor who gave me that feedback and I had to choose to listen. The decision to leverage my ability to speak directly to people and their needs was the beginning of real growth for me and my company.
