Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to David Redman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
David, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Personally as a director trying to make a career from it, I can generally categorize projects 1 of 2 ways. 1. I love the creativity of this project and would do it for free if I had to. 2. Doing this for the paycheque. When the two collide it’s wonderful, but sometimes that can be few and far between. Obviously the meaningful projects are those creatively liberating ones that keep you wanting to pursue this crazy craft
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into this industry when I was 18. My cinematographer, Matt Tipold, and I landed our first few gigs right when we started film school. From there we put a name on it, starting our production company, RedTip Productions. Over the last decade we’ve built a portfolio of music videos, branded content, commercials, short films, documentaries, and sketch comedy with some great clients like Sony, Warner, Atlantic Records, and Almost Friday Media.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My ultimate goal is to direct feature films. It’s been my goal for the last 10 years and all my career decisions are fuelled by that dream.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
One of the most rewarding parts about being a director is having a final product that lives forever.
