David, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

My love for photography and videography is not what encouraged me to start this business. It was actually my love for the art world in its entirety. S.P.A.D.E. is an acronym for “Spreading Positivity Anywhere Darkness Exists”. This is something I try to live by. Staying positive in a world full of negativity, jealousy, hate, belittlement, and struggle, is an absolute necessity for me. I’ve even had people say that I was “too positive” or it’s “weird seeing someone so happy”. These always seemed strange to me. Just like every other human on Earth, I have emotions; fear, anger, sadness, and pain. Though I believe it is imperative to release your emotions I feel there is a healthy way of doing so, whether it be through tears, conversation, a rage room, etc. When I feel most at peace, is when I’m pursuing my art. Acting, singing, drawing, writing, modeling, editing, and of course shooting pictures and videos. These were my outlets. I don’t come from a family of artists so pursuing this field wasn’t exactly the most practical from my family’s perspective. I had to prove that I could pursue my art and succeed in doing so and I wanted others to have this same mindset so that they would not be discouraged. Each and every one of us has been gifted with unique talents and abilities by God. We shouldn’t waste these special gifts, but instead, use them to make a difference in the world and help, inspire, or empower others. Our talents are unique, so it’s important to identify and nurture them in order to develop our full potential. So, I started S.P.A.D.E. originally as an artist support group which eventually stemmed into the production company it is today! The idea of starting my own company was in the back of my mind for quite some time. After graduating from college, I decided to take the plunge and founded S.P.A.D.E. Productions – a photography and videography business that provides high-quality services to customers who value creativity and professionalism. With hard work, dedication, and an understanding of some of the latest technology in both areas, we have been able to succeed in our mission to create stunning visuals for our customers all over the US.

My name is David “Damelio” Nicholas. I’ve been a professional photographer and videographer since 2020. Having worked in front of and behind the camera in the industry as a writer, actor, photographer, videographer, and artist I believe that my creativity and artistry are what sets me apart from other professionals in this field. I believe that over the years I have nurtured my ability to conceptualize and create images that are technically well-shot and create visual stories/ scenes as well. At S.P.A.D.E. Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

Humor is one of the most powerful tools to build an audience on social media. It can be used to both entertain and engage your followers, while also helping you to stand out from the crowd in a creative way. Comedy has allowed me to create relationships, and connect with people by making them laugh. By using comedy as a tool for social media growth, I was able to build relationships with my followers that are based on shared experiences and positive emotions. Captivating and creatively detailed images were also essential to building my social media audience. By leveraging the power of visuals, I was able to quickly draw people’s attention and create a lasting impression on my audience. Through careful planning, thoughtful design, and creative storytelling, I created compelling visual content that made make my brand stand out entertain, and also maybe inspired others to take action

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

Starting a business always comes with financial risks. But even before such risks arise, entrepreneurs must find the capital needed to launch their businesses. I tapped into different resources, including personal savings, income from my day job, and bookings from primarily family to begin with. Made possible through my parents gifting me my camera as a Christmas present. Starting a business and reaching the stage I am at now, was a daunting and expensive task. In order to have the financial freedom to pursue my dreams, it was necessary to have a steady income. Working a day job while I was starting my own business was a great way to fund it, and for those in a similar situation, it doesn’t mean that you have failed. In fact, having the ability to support yourself in the early stages of launching your own business can offer you invaluable experience and knowledge that will help you succeed in the long run. It allowed me to use the salary from my job as well as any additional money I made from shooting as a side hustle at first. With this strategy, entrepreneurs can have more control over their business and its finances while still building it up in an efficient manner.
