We were lucky to catch up with DAVID Mason recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, DAVID thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. So, naming is such a challenge. How did you come up with the name of your brand?
The name of my company is The FreeDom Group. When I came up with the name for my company, I knew the word freedom had to be involved. The word freedom to me means unrestricted. A lot of creatives are somewhat bound by other executives in the industry in their creative process. My company allows creatives to express themselves freely through their art(s) and as a manager, just help and guide them through the process to understand it all.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I began working in the entertainment/production management field when I moved to Atlanta from Florida in 2015. I’ve always had a passion for the arts since being a trained dancer back home in Florida. Once settled here in Atlanta, I was immediately drawn to the gospel industry here and felt that there was a need for new and fresh faces in the entertainment/production field. I established my company in late 2015 as LC Management. In 2016, I went under the leadership of Marques Collins of MC Management (now The Marques Collins Collective) based out of Chicago as a mentee with his company. While under his leadership, I was given the position as A&R Director of MC Management. While networking as an A&R Director, a few artists begun searching for me to work with them. I really didn’t have my brand finished at the time, so I had to work hard to finish branding my company. In May 2018, LC Management was re-branded to FreeDom Management Group and now The FreeDom Group.
Since May 2018, The FreeDom Group have been working nonstop in the gospel and secular industry. I had the honor and privilege to work with Kevin Lemons & Higher Calling, Antwoin Holman & Trans4mation, Ricky Dillard, James Hall, Dorinda Clark- Cole, The Rehab Cathedral Choir, Bishop C. Montez Jones, Le’Andria Johnson, KeKe Wyatt, San Franklin, B Chase Williams just to name a few. I’m currently managing a future major gospel artist, Jessica Dinae who is now on tour as a BGV for The Empress of Soul, Gladys Knight.
The one thing that I’m most proud of is that I achieved what I’ve dreamed about for so long and that was to start my own company and what sets me apart from others is that my passion and humbleness. The FreeDom Group specializes in artist consultations/booking, artist development, artist management, road management, concert production, event planning/coordination, conference planning/coordination, production management and production coordination.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Perseverance is key! There were many of times where I was told that I was delusional for starting my own company. Starting my own business was prophetically told to me when I was a little boy. I had to make sure it will come to past. Showing resilience in the midst of confusion and uncertainty lets you know that you can withstand anything.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I believe the most effective strategy for growing clientele is word of mouth. Word of mouth carries a lot both positively and negatively.
