We recently connected with David Márquez and have shared our conversation below.
Hi David , thanks for joining us today. Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
I’ve always tried to work full-time from my creative work, as a Celebrity Stylist. At first it was more difficult to live 100% from my work, because when I finished my studies in fashion, I had no contacts in this sector. But now I can make a living completely from what I love, working as a Celebrity Stylist. I think it’s all a process, and if you start from 0 like I started, with no contacts in the fashion world, You have to go little by little, knocking on all the doors and trying to make your work known.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I graduated in fashion design, since I have always had a great passion for fashion. Later, after finishing my studies in fashion design, I completed a master’s degree in fashion styling and communication. With hardly any contacts, I started working as a stylist for a very famous presenter in Spain. I worked in magazines both as a stylist for fashion editorials and as a fashion editor.
After working with numerous celebrities and magazines, comes the opportunity to work internationally with the Latin superstar Thalia.
I think one of my strong points are red carpets, because I love them and I work very hard to make my client surprise on the red carpet, always providing fashion, avant-garde, sophistication and a touch of fantasy and spectacularity.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I think it is very important that people know how to value and respect the work of creatives. On many occasions, professions that are related to creation are not valued or respected. For this reason, it is often difficult to survive on creative work because people, not valuing or respecting creation, do not want to pay for it.
Luckily, fewer and fewer people have these thoughts.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
What drives my creative journey is being able to make a comfortable living doing what I like and are passionate about. And of course grow within my profession and have new challenges.
