We caught up with the brilliant and insightful David Marchant a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
David , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Being an artist in the entertainment industry is probably one of the biggest risks anyone can take professionally.
My whole life has consisted of taking risks either personally or professionally and truly wouldn’t have it any other way!
At 18 years old, immediately after graduating high school, I enlisted in the U.S. Airforce following the 9/11 attacks. When all of my friends & family were against joining the military and felt it was too risky in regards to putting my life on the line but I never flinched and was completely drawn to the dangerously unknown.
My dream since I was a young boy was to be an elite fighter pilot in the Airforce so there was no turning back.. I took that dream along with my pleasure of public service and joined in June of 2002 in the Security forces/military police career field. I fell in love with that career path and after my initial 18 months of service worked my way up to be an elite member of the Presidential Airlift Group (P.A.G.) working for and protecting the President of the United States George W. Bush and Air Force One. I spent the next 4 years serving the President at Andrews Air Force base in Maryland and after a lengthy overseas deployment to Iraq & Afghanistan, I decided to separate with an honorable discharge and return home to Boston.
With my gained experience in law enforcement and continued desire to serve the public, I then joined the Boston Police Department as a Police Officer within 6 months of separating from the military. In April of 2013, I was on duty and on location at the Boston Marathon bombing and was a big part of the ultimate capture of the bombing suspect. I am proud to have been a crucial part of Boston’s history. I later resigned from the department in 2015.
My next risk in life started only 4 months following my police duties by solely founding Beantown Towing, LLC. I took my minimal knowledge & experience in the industry and went on to one of the leading most respected towing & roadside assistance companies in all of Boston 5 years straight. I closed the company in 2020 to now pursue my other dream and passion of acting on camera.
From March of 2020 until now nearly 4 years later, I have fully committed all of my time and energy into my career as an actor. This might definitely be the biggest risk of my life to date but I am the happiest I’ve been in a long time and wouldn’t have it any other way!
HIGH RISK EQUALS HIGHER REWARD

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am from the Dorchester section of Boston, Massachusetts which is known to be one of the most difficult areas to be from in the New England area. I am very proud to come from the streets as my extremely tough upringing has help mold me into the relentless, determined and strong willed person that I am today.
Dorchester, Massachusetts is also home to the Wahlberg family and I grew up only a few streets away from his family. Mark, Donnie & Paul have all been a big influence and inspiration in my life and proud to be a DotBoy!
Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck & Matt Damon also grew up not far from me in neighboring Somerville/Cambridge and they were all also big inspirations.
Lastly, Chris Evans & John Krasinski are also from the close by neighborhood of Milton, Massachusetts.
Lets just say Boston boys are determined to succeed and won’t stop doing whatever it takes until we do!

How did you build your audience on social media?
Well, I pride myself on being a completely open book in both my personal & professional life meaning I don’t ever shy away from being myself and don’t change for nobody.
I always “bare all” being open and honest when faced with adversity or confrontation. I work very hard to be the best man, husband, father, person, artist, creative, friend and human being I can be. I don’t worry what anybody thinks about me at the end of the day so just be the honest best version of yourself and they will follow your lead.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being an entrepreneur, boss and in charge of my own career and destiny. Just giving it 110% in my career at all times, will eventually pay off and be al worth it in the end and can be proud of what I accomplished in life.
