Credstart has worked closely with shelters that support women escaping abusive situations. Unfortunately, abuse often extends beyond the physical and mental to include financial control. Abusers can damage their partner’s credit, making it incredibly difficult for them to gain independence. We partner with these shelters to provide both credit repair services and financial advice. By helping these women rebuild their credit, we empower them to secure rental properties, possibly buy a home, obtain a vehicle, and even access job opportunities that require credit checks. In essence, we give them a real chance to regain their independence and build a secure future for themselves and their families.

Credstart is a credit analyst firm that specializes in helping individuals repair and improve their credit scores. Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I funded Credstart with savings I had accumulated while working at my previous job, totaling about twenty thousand dollars. After being laid off, I faced a tough decision: use that money to pay off my debts and find another full-time job, or take a risk and invest it in starting CredStart. I chose to invest in myself and launch the company. Fast forward to today, it was the best investment I ever made. It serves as a reminder to always believe in yourself and trust your gut.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I first started in this industry over ten years ago, I was a 22 years old gay Latino entering an ego driven Male-dominated field. Unfortunately, to get my business off the ground, I felt the need to hide my age and sexuality. As time went on, I realized to truly give my all to our clients I needed to embrace who I am. In the process, some individuals I worked with turned away from working with us. Rather than letting this rejection crush me, I used it as motivation to work even harder and prove myself. This determination propelled me and my company to where we are today. The irony is that some of those who initially turned away are now among our biggest supporters. This journey taught me the power of resilience and staying true to oneself, no matter the challenges.
