We caught up with the brilliant and insightful David Lane a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
DAVID, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started you own firm sooner?
The main distractor when you are young is the fact that you think you have time. Personally, I feel I wanted a lot of time and missed many opportunities because they didn’t seem that important at the time. The main flaw with that premise for me at least, was the missed opportunities in creating a strong network from early on. There are people who come into your life at different stages. It is very important to pick the right ones and develop a strong relationship. A strong network takes time to develop. Starting early will shave years of hard work later in life.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We represent several Family Offices, funds, and institutions in Latam, Europe, and Asia. Always looking for new investment opportunities and additional capital sources.
Promoted investment opportunities in the US directly with the Minister of Commercial Affairs at the US Embassy in Beijing during 2013- 2014. Have worked and still working with Mr. William Zarit promoting investment opportunities since his departure from his government position. This particular connection set me on a new path and opened strong relationships in Asia for me.

The main qualities of my business are consistency and honesty. People need to know that you will be there when the time comes and that you will always stand by your values.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Meeting new people and attending relevant events and conferences are key to developing new business.
