We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful David Johns. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with David below.
David , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you feel you or your work has ever been misunderstood or mischaracterized? If so, tell us the story and how/why it happened and if there are any interesting learnings or insights you took from the experience?
Quite A Few Years Ago, There Was A Couple A&R’s In Nashville Looking For Talent And I Had To Meet With Them At The United Artist Tower On Music Row, I Was Obviously Stoked To Be Meeting With Big Wigs, But What They Said To Me Was That Nobody Wanted To Hear A Caucasian Rapper From Nashville With Gold Teeth Rapping Hood Shhh, That If I Was From Memphis,Houston Or Some Other City Then Maybe But Nashville “No” And That I Was Not Easily Marketable… I Definitely Left That Meeting Feeling Misunderstood,Mischaracterized,Judged, And Defeated

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’ve Always Loved Music And Entertainment, I Come From A Family Of Music Lovers That Could Sing Very Well But Never Pursued The Stage Or Industry For That Matter, I Got Into The Industry So To Say Is When One Of My Best Friends E.T. Decided To Start His Own Rap Label Independently Out Of East Nashville, He Found Out I Was Rapping Through A D.J In Our Neighborhood Named DJ Frosty And Decided To Give Me A Chance, He Was Booking Gene Breeden Studio In The United Artist Tower On Music Row And Brung Me And A Couple Friends In To Drop A Song For A Compilation Called “Nashvilles Most Wanted” And That’s How I Was Introduced To The Industry, Ok So Fast Forward To Now I’m Definitely A More Polished Songwriter I Like To Stick To The Subject At Hand Of The Song Title, I Dont Freestyle, I Write And Put Thought Into My Songs And Rhyme Schemes, I’ve Written Songs Of Different Genres Also For An R&B Artist, For Potential Clients I Offer Features,Live Performances,Ghostwriting,Acting Etc, I’ve Played Roles In 2 Movies Titled “Loyalty & Respect” Which Has Been Streamed 10 Million Times On Amazon And Over 1 Million Times On YouTube And “Devils Candy” That I Dont Know The Official Numbers On.. For Potential Investors I Offer “Business Ideas”, I’m Most Proud That I’ve Never Passed On Opportunities Given To Me Whether It Financially Paid Off Or Not, I Was Raised In The Projects Of East Nashville Where The Only Way To Go Is “Up” You’re Already Starting From The Bottom So Yeah I’ve Done Free Shows Paid Dues Etc, The Main Thing To Know About Big Dave Is That I’m Worth Knowing
Have you ever had to pivot?
I’ve Definitely Had To Pivot A Couple Of Times, Early In My Music Career I Was Caught Up Deep In The Streets, My Jobs Was Selling Drugs And Rapping,I Begin Selling Marijuana But Eventually Selling Anything I Could Profit From That Lead Me To Incarceration

Can you share your view on NFTs? (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
My View On NFTs Is That I Wish I Knew More About Them, I’d Like To Be More Knowledgeable About NFTs Definitely
