We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful David Jackson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with David below.
Alright, David thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I’ll start by saying I am a pawn and still learning each and every day! But I started learning how to make beats and make complete full songs when I was young. Song structure is everything and it’s what captures attention. To write a catchy verse and hook is not always easy. But the only thing I would have changed is starting even sooner and doing it even more often. Most essential skills are taking your time and perfecting the most you can and not rushing. Whoever will enjoy will enjoy. Never force a connection or rush a project.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is MC David J and I have been a Hip Hop artist for about 8 years now. I love performing and putting out songs for the enjoyment of the world. I take my craft seriously and when I’m not rapping I’m making beats or working on some cool visuals. Music is a tough game and I’m learning each and every day. Always happy to connect with other creatives in the process!

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Honestly in the game of Hip Hop to be an independent artist is a big challenge. I think it’s best to be signed and if you are not signed it’s best to have a team. You simply cannot do it alone. That is if you’d like to have a bigger impact than just putting out music. I do wish I was signed a little earlier on but I am happy for now being able to put out music on a scale to the people who know me currently.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I believe that in order to tell a great story, there must be an end. Therefore there must be a good game plan to have a good legacy to fulfill and let people enjoy. It’s always respectful to the craft and even peaceful to bow out at the right time and not overdue it. Of course be the best you can and go for the top. But know when enough is enough.
