We recently connected with David Hester and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, David thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success takes perseverance, sweat and real tears. There are no shortcuts to being successful. Every dream comes with ups and downs. I am barely at a point of seeing success and my journey still has so much more room to grow.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a caterer who started back in 2016. I am also well known for my social media presence.
What started as a quick way to make money turned into a full time dream. I specialize in soul food, seafood, and food with a twist.
Throughout this time Ive navigated through food sales and the food industry as well as the ups and down of social media. Ultimately Ive learned that being myself and letting my personality shine through my food was the key to my success
I’ve built an organic following based off of laughter and good food. I am very engaged with my following as well. They have been so helpful in my success and I always love them for it.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I am resilient because I refuse to quit. I refuse to give up on my dream. Whether that’s me staying up long daily hours, or missing core family time, I refuse to give up on the dream that keeps me pushing.
My passion is food and laughter. Without it, I feel empty.
So I don’t allow myself to make excuses. When it’s time to work, my brain does just that.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
The pandemic has in more ways than one forced me to pivot my business.
I had to learn how to organically build my food following again after losing so many customers due to Covid and the changes that came with it. I had to learn how to cook, store and properly serve my food to adhere ti the needs of not only my customer but the pandemic at hand.
It taught me that no one is exempt from change. It’s inevitable. We must always adapt and move on.
