We recently connected with David Hercenberg and have shared our conversation below.
Hi David, thanks for joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
Ever since I was a little boy I looked up to Superheros even though I knew they were not real. Superheroes are meant to inspire. I realized I could literally save the day and inspire people all around the world by simply being present. A lot of other companies are in the profession for motives other than to help their fellow man. I don’t consider myself working because it’s not work it’s fun. I get to play with my toys and save the day every time I leave for a gig. It gives me a sense of purpose and it provides a meaningful service for people who request coverage. Being able to control the camera allows me to decide what people see and hear, it allows me to manipulate time and space and provide something that will last beyond a fleeting moment, it’s something that will be forever.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

CREATING VIDEOS FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS

Have you ever had to pivot?
COVID changed the game a bit so to pivot with the times I reached out to funeral homes and started live streaming grave side funerals since people were unable to attend in person. Constantly adapting as the technology evolves, being in this line of work is a big responsibility and a lot of commitment.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When making a movie you have the luxury of calling, “Cut” and stopping the scene. However, when you are on a real ‘set’ at an event there is no button to press to stop, you have to be ready to go at all times. Anything can happen, and to be prepared for every situation and have back up plans is very important. I learned early on that it’s better to be over prepared than under prepared. I’d rather have an extra camera than be in a situation where I can’t perform my task. Like sands through the hour glass, so are the days of our lives. The event must go on, and having everything in the right place at the right time is really the name of the game.
