Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to David Hector. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
David, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
When quarantine happened in 2020, my job closed down. Since I was in the dance and entertainment industry all of my work was put on hold. That’s when my wife and I came up with A.C.E Studios. It started out as online dance class on zoom, for kids that were stuck at home. Once the quarantined lifted and most of our students left, we transitioned to after school dance. From there we moved into all forms of dance lessons and entertainment, but it started with taking the first risk.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started dancing back in 2008. I had always seen breaking (what people call breakdance) on tv and movies, but never actually tried it. Once I saw the jabbawockeez on americas best dance crew, my friends and I started messing around with it. That’s when I met a kid in 10th grad that could actually do it. From there I knew dance was something I really wanted to do for my career. Fast forward and now A.C.E studios offers dance classes, live performances, after school dance, wedding dance lessons, and more. Anything you can think of, we offer it. What sets us apart is in our name. A.C.E stands for Always Creating Excellence. No matter what we do, do it as serving the Lord to the highest level we can offer. I’m truly proud of the business and brand my wife Dejah and I are creating. We get to do what we love for a living, so we never work a day in our lives.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
4 years into my dance journey I broke my neck. I was at a gymnastics training and landed on my head. I was rushed to the hospital and had to get surgery the next day. I spent that whole summer in a neck brace. I had a great support system between family and friends though. It all gave me a burning desire to come back way stronger. Since then I’ve always pushed myself to work hard and never give up. I know that you can truly do whatever you put your mind to. God definitely protected me, He had testimony that I needed a test to tell.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being active dancers in the industry as well as the dance community has definitely helped our reputation in the market. All of our clients see first hand that we are experienced, professional, and reliable. We truly know our craft, and have artistic integrity in all of our work.
