Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to David Gonzalez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
David, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I’ve worked on was my friend’s wedding. It was actually the first wedding I ever shot as a photographer and my first paid gig! It meant so much to me that my friend trusted me to capture their special day. I will forever be grateful because I learned so much and grew as a creative, and was able to land more clients after that.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is David, I am a photographer from Long Beach, California. I had always been fascinated with taking photos and it was always something that intrigued me. I always found myself borrowing my friend’s cameras whenever I got the chance and I would go around taking pictures of everything! It wasn’t until December of 2020 that I began to really do a deep dive into photography. I had enrolled into a photography course for college and that’s where I began to learn the fundamentals. As I learned more, I decided to invest in myself and purchase a camera. At this point, I knew photography was more than just a hobby and that it was something I was truly passionate about. I began posting my work on instagram and things really started to take off for me. Within my first two years, I was able to land many gigs, one of them being my first wedding! Since then I have learned so much and gotten the opportunity to produce truly amazing work.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When it comes to social media, the main thing is consistency. You really want to be consistent if you want to grow your social media presence. Now, that doesn’t mean you have to post every single day because consistency looks different for everyone. For me, consistency can mean posting 3 times a week, but for you it can mean posting 5 times a week. In the end, the key to growth is to maintain your presence, interact with your audience, be engaged, and the growth will follow.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I think the main goal right now is to eventually have enough clients to replace my full time job.
