We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful David Di. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with David below.
David, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Is there a heartwarming story from your career that you look back on?
Due to the pandemic, it took four years for my mother to finally visit me in Los Angeles and see my clinic. Back in China, she is well-respected as a professor in traditional Chinese medicine. As she walked through my clinic, I could sense her quiet approval by pride in her eyes. With a patient’s consent, she also shared her expertise in analyzing their condition, assisting with her vast wisdom. Her feedback was insightful, touching on both the intricacies of the practice and the nuances of patient communication. It reminded me of my earlier days when her teachings were my foundational guide.
Now, with my own clinic, every decision I make and every patient I attend to carries the essence of her teachings. Her visit was more than just a formal tour; it was a subtle reconnection of our shared medical journey. It’s not merely her reputation as a skilled doctor that I respect; it’s the consistent support and encouragement she’s given me throughout my life. As I continue in my practice, my aim is to honor the medical legacy she’s handed down, providing genuine care and hope to all who walk through my doors.

David, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m David Di, an experienced acupuncturist and holistic health practitioner with a deep passion for natural healing. My journey into this field began with a profound interest in traditional Chinese medicine, which led me to dedicate myself to the study and practice of acupuncture, herbal medicine, and other holistic modalities.
My approach to holistic healing is deeply influenced by my mother who is a Professor, a well-known acupuncture and Chinese Medicine expert. My passion for acupuncture is inspired by her philosophy when it comes to treating patients. I witnessed my mother receiving more than 100 patients every day, and even with such a vast number, she always customized different treatment plans for each one to solve their chronic conditions and restore their normal physical abilities.
In my practice, I offer a comprehensive range of holistic health services, including acupuncture treatments, herbal remedies, and dietary guidance. My primary mission is to address various physical and emotional health issues, such as pain management, stress relief, digestive disorders, and more, all while promoting overall well-being.
What distinguishes me is my unwavering commitment to personalized care. I believe that every individual is unique, and I tailor each treatment to their specific needs and circumstances. My holistic approach encompasses not only physical symptoms but also the emotional and spiritual aspects of health.
I take great pride in helping people regain control of their health and improve their overall quality of life. I am dedicated to educating my clients about the benefits of holistic medicine, empowering them to take an active role in their healing journey.
I am not just an acupuncturist; I am a compassionate healer, committed to providing holistic solutions to health concerns. Whether you seek relief from chronic pain or aspire to enhance your overall well-being, my academic credentials and personalized approach make me a trusted expert in the realm of holistic health.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I first started running my own acupuncture clinic, it was the biggest challenge of my life. At the same time, my wife and I were expecting our first child, and life was not stable. My wife and I started from scratch, opening our first acupuncture clinic in downtown Los Angeles. In the beginning, we faced two challenges: the impending arrival of a new life and the nascent clinic. My wife fully supported my business, helping me refine the clinic’s workflows even during her pregnancy. When we couldn’t afford a receptionist, she doubled up in that role for me. At the start, when there were no patients, I began to promote my clinic everywhere. Initially, people are always resistant to new things, but I did not give up. I believed that through my acupuncture skills, as long as one person was willing to try and achieved good therapeutic results, my business would gradually get on track. It was our persistence and hard work that built the reputation of our clinic, slowly establishing our business. I’ve always believed that the most traditional business model, word-of-mouth, is crucial. However, it’s also the most challenging in the early stages. During this period, every patient deserves respect. They were willing to try a new approach, giving us the opportunity to demonstrate the efficacy of acupuncture and introduce more people to its wonders. Looking back now, those days were filled with challenges, but they were also the most valuable experiences of our lives. Each patient’s recovery was hard-won. Those hardships and efforts have shaped who we are today, making us more resilient and grateful.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Looking back, I would still choose the same profession, becoming a traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture practitioner. This is not just because my mother was a professor of traditional Chinese acupuncture, but because of the sense of honor this profession brings to me. This honor is not derived from recognition by other institutions but comes from the improvement of my own skills and the genuine therapeutic effects I can offer to a vast number of patients. I feel that even in modern times, when we have a wealth of modern treatments available, the traditional, hands-on therapies, or the use of natural herbal remedies, always have an irreplaceable appeal. The human touch in the treatment and communication adds to its charm. All these reasons affirm why, upon reflection, I would still choose the same profession.
