We recently connected with David Deutsch and have shared our conversation below.
Hi David, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Meaning can come from so many different places, and have so many deeply rooted emotions. I often find meaning in projects that afflict the most emotion, and the ones who have the most story behind them. Of these projects, I released my own album titled, “Prism.”
This album is so much more than just 6 songs and some cool artwork. This music, this album, this project is a representation of all the thoughts and feelings, and emotions, and experiences that I went through basically throughout the entirety of my life.
The tracks all range in different instrumentation, orchestrations, intents, and meanings, but they all explore concepts based around what it means to experience happiness, mindfulness, solo traveling and how that changes oneself, what it means to spend a lot of time alone, as well as the overall feeling and accomplishment of having grown, and been able to watch yourself grow up.
Beyond an album, it’s a project deeply meaningful throughout the entirety of my being and life. When you look through and shine a light through a prism, you see all the colors and shapes that it embodies. Just like a real prism, this album, “Prism,” you, the listener are shining a light through a reflection of myself, and the result is all of these colors, and shapes, and sounds, and experiences that are Me, and the music.

David, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi! I’m David Deutsch. I am a musician, composer, artist, producer, sound maker, cat dad, nature loving vegan.
I have been writing, and playing, and making music ever since I could literally speak the word, “piano.” I have played countless of shows, done many national and international tours playing music in almost every continent, and have worked with some of my favorite artists, composers, and musicians.
Currently in Los Angeles, I am working on my own albums, films, commercials, and productions. I have a really, really exciting new Duo Project with my dear friend Jonny Brenns, and we will be releasing music that we believe will change the world, very soon.
I have also worked on and contributed music for some of the biggest films to be released in the last 5 years including, Guardians of the Galaxy 3, The Suicide Squad, Shazam, It Chapter 2, the #1 movie on Hulu for over 2 weeks, Last Survivors, the Emmy nominated National Geographic show, Hostile Planet, and many, many more blockbuster films.
When working with clients and collaborating with other like minded creatives, I tend to not think about music first, or even second really. To me, the most important thing is the vision and the idea. If we can collaborate together to nail down the intent and reasoning and motivations behind the vision and idea, then the creativity will begin to flow out of me.
Writing music is a lot like story telling, and the best filmmakers, creators, authors, musicians, artists, and anyone who creates, can tell the best stories that captivate each audience member. As a part of creative teams, I strive to create encapsulating stories that grip the listeners and the audience from the very first note.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist to me is the entire process. The most energizing source of electricity comes from the initial idea, and then I absolutely love the process of making that idea a reality. Once the idea is there and completed, hearing the final product, and being able to share those emotions and feelings, and experiences with others is honestly what makes being an artist amazing.
I thrive on hearing and learning more about how someone feels, and how someone may think. And learning how someone feels and thinks with regards to my music and art is the most satisfying aspect of creating. I love to see pure, raw, and real emotions.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I think as creatives we all have certain goals such as playing at “this” arena, or having “this” amount of fans, or whatever else it may be. Which don’t get me wrong, I definitely would love to play my own original music at the Hollywood Bowl, and Carneige Hall, sell out Wimbledon, and play Lollapalooza.
But ultimately the main goal driving my creative odyssey is one of finding the true art within myself, and being true to who I am, so that it speaks even louder and clearer in my music. I am in pursuit of more knowledge within myself, so that my music and art may flourish. Vulnerability is hard, and being vulnerable with yourself so that you can create even more meaningful music is a goal that I am striving for.
