We caught up with the brilliant and insightful David Daniels a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
David, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
There has never been a time in my life when I wanted to do anything but create. My artistic journey was not a straight line from point A to point B, but underneath it all was my passion to create.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My first job after college was as an elementary School Art Teacher in a small rural town in Northern Michigan. It certainly was not my dream job, but it was a job, and it was in my field. I had a total of 1,200 students and a budget of $200. Those numbers are not inflated, but it does give you an idea of just how highly the Arts were regarded
Fast forward 15 years, I met my now-husband (we have been together 40 years), and we moved to Silver Spring, MD, A ten-minute drive to Washington DC. As you might suspect, moving from a small rural town in Michigan to Washington, DC, was a huge cultural shock. Galleries, museums, and politics surrounded me.
My first job in my new location was teaching Watercolor painting at the Smithsonian Institutes. To get to my classroom, I had to walk between the Capital Building and the Washington Monument. The sights and sounds of that short walk never got old.
.
Take another leap forward. For the past forty years, I have been carving out A nitch as a professional artist. My large (40″ x 60″ and larger) impressionistic, nature-filled watercolors have been received very well.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Without a doubt the joy my paintings bring is the biggest reward.I have had clients call me years after purchasing a painting to tell me they see something new and exciting in my work.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
To know me is to know my art – they are inseparable. I use my creativity as an outlet to express my personal experiences, emotions, and love of nature.
My goal is simple and grandiose at the same time. I want to make the world a more beautiful place to live, one painting at a time. Through my work, I aim to capture the spirit of nature and interpret its beauty through my unique vision. I love the versatility of watercolor; it allows me to play with light, texture, and color in a truly magical way.
Art, for me, is a never-ending journey of exploration and self-discovery. My formal training in Botany and Biology are the driving force behind my work. My works are about exploration and discovery.
