Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to David Craig Ellis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
David Craig, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Pretty much everything I do involves tremendous risk and in the long run, I wind up losing. But unless it’s dangerous and risky, I’m usually not interested. Three years ago I took on opening a Gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Knowing it was a gamble, I gave it a good shot. It’s been much more difficult than I had anticipated and has basically destroyed my life at this point. Friends and family members have pitched in to help and my alarm goes off at 5 am to get in there and dig. I haven’t slept properly in years, but I love it, it’s what I love to do.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m drawn to the lighter side of things. I make art that may be considered reminiscent of the fun stuff some artists were making back in the eighties. I screen my own prints, t shirts, hats, etc. One of my favorite parts of the process is going out to get a list of supplies and getting started on a new idea. I do have a lot of half finished paintings because of new ideas taking over. Everything I make is available at
“Not Another GALLERY!” And my online store.

Also I’m with the Fridge Art Fair Every December in Miami and every May in New York. Super fun and enjoyable!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I suppose in the long run, some of my fortitude will be shown by my ongoing battle with Long Covid. It’s been almost four years with the illness now, and I’ve had to discover new ways of functioning and moving about in the world. I’ve been enrolled in the Long Covid Program at Westchester Medical Center, I’ve learned to manage my energy and I got a dog so I walk every day. Although this sickness has destroyed my business, my health and my ability to sleep properly, I have a lot of faith and a strong spiritual practice that keeps me strong and gives me the ability to hang in there.

Have you ever had to pivot?
Twenty five years ago i was hopelessly addicted to drugs and alcohol and in order to actually stay alive, I had to give it up. I tried and failed several times, but in 1999 it finally stuck. Today I’m able to reach out and help people, show up for my friends, family, myself but most importantly Jackson, my Boston Terrier.
He’s my best friend.
