We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful David Cole. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with David below.
David , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I have been a touring musician for a good part of my career, and in early 1996, I formed Band X to perform in a house band situation in a nightclub in Atlanta. We worked as a house band in two different locations over the next several years, and in 2004, we established ourselves as a top of the line party band, touring the country doing celebrity weddings, high profile events and parties. It just kind of happened naturally, and we do enjoy filling in our calendar between private events with playing around town at different establishments, and we’ve developed quite a following. We have the best of both worlds, and we love it!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I was a touring musician for most of the 70’s and 80’s, working with national acts such as Paul Davis, Billie Joe Royal, and Ringo Starr to name a few. I played on the 80’s hit record “Pac Man Fever” and with Band X, I have worked with such artists as Rick Springfield, Paul Rodgers, Jack Blades (Night Ranger), Wally Palmar (Romantics), Jeff Carlisi (.38 Special) and Mickey Thomas (Starship). We don’t only play all of the party favorites that everyone loves, but we love backing up fun rock stars from the past and present as part of what we offer to our clients. I love working with each individual client to make sure that no two shows are ever the same. My wife and I run the business together, all day, every day. We work very hard to make our clients feel important and valued, and I try to do the same with my musicians and singers. We love what we do, and it shows.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In 2004, we were a house band in a nightclub in Gwinnett that I was part owner of. The nightclub burned down, and the band was left with no home base, so I had to totally reinvent the band. We started doing larger events, big weddings, and traveling around the country. We also like our home base here in Atlanta, so we started playing all over town. In that time, we have grown into one of the most popular bands in the area, and we love playing for our followers in between our private events schedule.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When our nightclub burned down, we had to turn to other means of playing for the public. I gathered the area’s best musicians and singers, and we have been non stop ever since.
